Fine Dining & Snow?

Amazing sunset

There has been whispers and rumors floating around that the S word is about to make an appearance. For our winter enthusiasts, this is greeted with smiles and lots of “Bring it on!” For those that are little less of a fan, they hate to see this warmer fall weather take absence! Regardless if it’s this weekend or later, snow will definitely be making an appearance. Now is the perfect time to enjoy a nice weekend getaway. Weather is still nice enough (snow or not) to take advantage of our many hiking trails throughout our state parks! Swallow Falls State Park will always impress but Deep Creek State Park also offers some amazing walking and mountain biking trails! Definitely worth checking out! We here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations ( or 1-866-351-1119) are still offering some phenomenal discounts including Stay 3 Nights for the Price of 2 now through December 20th. Plan a couple’s retreat or make it a family getaway, we are ready to help you find the perfect home for you!

Cornish Manor Better

If you happen to be visiting our area and looking for a special and unique dining experience, I would recommend checking out Cornish Manor Restaurant in Oakland. Standing immense it’s Victorian glory, it definitely makes a pretty first impression. Belated birthday celebrations took my teenage son and me there last week for lunch. Offering multiple dining areas, they were just busy enough to be comfortable but you still had your choice seating wise (if you are planning on dining during the weekend and/ or for dinner, I think that they may require reservations). Wraparound windows give you the opportunity to enjoy the outside sunlight or you can choose by the wall for more intimate conversations. They offer a large variety of choices for the lunch menu alone; choose seafood pasta, the quiche of the day, or their infamous warm chicken salad served in a bread bowl! Incredible! While the prices are slightly larger than your average Value Meal, the portions are huge and the flavor is divine! The 1860’s Victorian is elegantly decorated throughout and you can truly feel the homes captivating charm and history. Located in our county seat of Oakland, it’s a mere 15-20 minute ride from McHenry and the heart of Deep Creek Lake! Again, if you are looking for a new dining establishment while visiting, Cornish Manor is definitely worth the trip!  To Snow or Not Snow? That is the question. In the meantime, we can’t wait to see you at the lake!

A Birthday Wish with a side of Yum!

So I would like to start this little ditty off with a huge heartfelt “Happy Birthday” shout out to our favorite boss lady, Jodi, who celebrated her special day on the 15th! Happy Birthday Jodi ~ we hope your day was amazing! Seeing this as the perfect opportunity to brown-nose a wee bit, I decided to treat her to her favorite chai tea from Trader’s Coffee House (and maybe help myself to something sweet and frothy in the process)! There is something so invigorating about the smell of fresh ground coffee and one is not disappointed when they step through the door at Trader’s! Immediately engulfed in the wonderful delicious aroma of espresso and fresh baked goods, it is apparent why this is a favorite meeting place for locals and visitors to our area. Hungry? No problem as they offer both breakfast and lunch items as well as a wide variety of pastries, cookies, and quiches. All made fresh daily! Frappe, Cappuccino, Smoothie, Chai tea? So many choices and once you narrow that down, you still need to pick a flavor from the abundance to choose from! Need to do some work, update your facebook status, or just need Wireless Internet in general? Trader’s has this as well! The ambience oozes a casual and laid back vibe, perfect for hanging out while you enjoy a nice hot beverage. If you’re in the area stop in and say “Hello” to Brenda and her wonderful crew or will are always more than willing to assist their customers.
Labor Day is quickly approaching and now is the time to call Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations (1-866-351-1119 or online so we can help you find the ideal vacation home for you and your guests. Don’t let summer slip by without one last holiday summer blowout! We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Pizza + Ale = It’s All Good!

We frequently get asked by visitors to our area to recommend some dining options for them during their stay. If they have children, we may suggest Smiley’s Fun Zone or if they are looking for a romantic candlelight dinner, I always tell them that they can’t go wrong with The Four Seasons @ Will O’ the Wisp. However, if they are just looking for something casual but a little different, I like to suggest that they check out Mountain State Brewery, located just a few minutes past Wisp Resort. Wooden floors with high vaulted ceilings provide a warm and cozy atmosphere. Actually the whole vibe is very relaxed and casual. If you are bringing the kids, there are numerous board games there to keep them occupied. Now, I have to be honest, I haven’t tried many of their dishes, simply because the first time we went, we tried the Fire on the Mountain pizza, and we were smitten. Cooked in a wood burning fireplace and using all fresh ingredients, makes the food delectable. They have a large variety of pizzas, wraps, burritos, salads and snacks. Of course, it’s not called a Brewery for nothing! Boasting a variety of different hand crafted ales, they differ from light to dark. Not sure which to pick? Choose their ale sampler and get one of each. Not being a big ale fan myself, I chose the Hillbilly Punch! Wow! Very good but definitely packs a bit of a punch (pardon the pun). Sometimes they offer acoustic music on the weekends which is definitely an added treat. Relaxed, casual atmosphere mixed with awesome food and beverage, makes Mountain State Brewery a must! Check it out the next time you are in the area. There are still a lot of fun activities going on around Deep Creek Lake in the next few weeks, so be sure to call Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations (1-866-351-1119) today to take advantage of some great last minute discounts. In the meantime, we can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Dinner at Pine Lodge Steakhouse

During the holiday madness, my husband and I were able to make it out to Pine Lodge Steakhouse for dinner. Centrally located in McHenry, Pine Lodge Steakhouse is not a far drive from any lake home. It has two dining areas, the upstairs dining area and the saloon downstairs with wax stone floors, wooden pillars, and a large horseshoe style bar. We choose the saloon, with the smoking ban in all restaurants in Maryland we were able to bring our 9 month old son with us as well (he chose crackers for dinner). We started out our dinner with the appetizer special, the mussels, which ended up being a fabulous option. Then we split their biggest steak on the menu, The Lumberjack – it exceeded our expectations (it was so big, we needed to take some home for lunch the next day). We had a fantastic meal and top notch service for under $55 at a very popular restaurant in Deep Creek Lake. They have great lunch specials and dining options for every taste bud. You can even make reservations online at! Look forward to seeing you out and about in Deep Creek Lake!
