Speaking of more festivals, while October is kind enough to give us Autumn Glory, November brings us the Festival of Trees, which is held over the Thanksgiving holiday! Held here in McHenry at the fairgrounds, the Festival of Trees is held on Friday the 27th and Saturday the 28th beginning at 9 am until 6 pm. Offering a variety of family fun activities, guests get the chance to stroll through a winter wonderland of decorated trees, wreaths, centerpieces, art work and more. Bring the kids first thing in the morning for Breakfast with Santa and then head over to Frosty’s Funland where they can send a letter to Santa, visit the bakery or make a craft. Live entertainment is held on the stage where various dance groups will be there to perform. Definitely a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to visit. Schools are out and families are already gathering so why not create new special memories by planning to bring your clan to Deep Creek Lake. With what has been known as unpredictable mountain weather, you may be arriving to a blanket of snowy goodness or to warmer weather, just right for hiking through our many state forests. Give us a call today so we can begin planning your new Thanksgiving tradition. We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

A little savage, something new, and a festival!

Sunrise-2BWe are sailing into fall and are now starting to see the first changing of the leaves. This weekend is the big SavageMan Triathlon where athletes flock to our mountainous area to tackle our hills with their bikes, swim in Deep Creek and race down our roads! Definitely a competitive sport and one that is intense to watch! Of course we welcome these athletes and their families with open arms! We love that they can participate in such a great charitable event and experience the beauty of our area at the same time. We are also being gifted with dream like weather this week with bright blue skies and lots of sunshine. Temperatures have been ideal and in the mid-70s. This is also the perfect time for evening bonfires. Many of our vacation rentals have outdoor fire pits so if you are planning on visiting us, make sure you let your Reservationist know this so she can help you find one with this particular amenity. Call us at 1-866-351-1119 or go online www.deepcreekvacations.com and click this option when you are putting in your requirements for your search. Speaking of going online, have you checked our newly launched website. As before, it is very user friendly but also has a fresh new look. Not only is it easy to search for a home with your certain criteria but you also see our vacation packages, check out our photo gallery, read our policies and procedures and more. You can also easily navigate over to our Real Estate section for those that are thinking of buying or listing a home. As I continue to somewhat boast, there is also a very thorough and informative 3D virtual floor plan that we now offer for our homes (not all have one right now but they all will in the near future). This is a great tool to have when you trying to see if a house would work out for you and your family. You can go in and maneuver throughout the rooms and floors, perfect for trying to decide who may be sleeping where. I highly recommend you check out (plus it’s kind of fun!)
The Autumn Glory Festival will be here shortly. The entire festival kicks off on Wednesday October 7th and the big parade held in Oakland is Saturday the 10th. There are so many fun filled family activities to do that weekend! By tradition if you do join in the celebration, don’t forget to pick up your turkey dinner. There are numerous dining establishments in the area who join in with awesome local tradition and offer a full turkey dinner with all of the trimmings! Again, give us a call and let us help you find your Deep Creek home! We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Art? Wine? Yes, Please!

Art and Wine   If you haven’t already made plans to attend the annual Deep Creek Art & Wine Festival this upcoming weekend (September 11-13th), it’s not to late! Gather the girlfriends or make it a couples retreat & come visit for a weekend full of fun activities. On Friday evening, many of our local dining establishments have planned special wine pairing menus so you can start enjoying the festivities when you arrive. The Wine Festival on Saturday begins at 12 noon and goes to 6 pm while the wine store will continue to stay open until 7 pm. Activities run throughout the day and feature everything from live entertainment, carriage rides, a photo booth and more. Of course there is the reason you came to the festival; the art & wine. Over 30 local artists will be present selling a variety of items like pottery, oil paintings, jewelry, wood carvings and more. Also there will be National Distributors and Maryland wineries there to offer samplings of over 200 different kinds of wine. Definitely something for everyone’s different tastes. The food fare is another great reason to attend. There will be many food artisans there so you can grab a bite while at the festival or choose to take some home with you like Firefly Farms amazing goat cheese or fresh produce and products from Deberry’s Farm. The very best part of the festival? The proceeds go to HART which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets in Garrett County. A huge win-win for everyone! We are now offering last minute discount on all available vacation rental homes so now is the perfect time to call us! A fun packed weekend enjoyed art and wine with your friends or another weekend of doing nothing! Make it Count! We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Lovin This Season!

Spectacular scenery @ Deep Creek this week!
The leaves have begun to really “pop” this past week covering our gorgeous mountains in brilliant hues of orange, red, and yellow! It seem to be naturally timing themselves to be at their prime for next weekend’s 47th Annual Autumn Glory Festival that kicks off on Wednesday the 8th and ends on Sunday the 12th. So much fun! If you haven’t made plans yet to attend, please do! Call us here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales and tell us what you are looking for in a vacation home and as always, we will do our best to find the perfect home for you (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com).

Having fun @ last year’s VRMA!
Speaking of us here at Taylor-Made, several of us will be getting ready to attend VRMA’s (Vacation Rental Managers Association) conference in San Diego at the end of the month. This is always an excellent chance for those in the vacation rental industry to attend classes and seminars on all of the latest trends in our industry. Keynote speakers speak each day and it’s just an optimal time to network with colleagues to exchange ideas. As a company, it brings our coworkers closer together (face it, 6 full days and evenings will do that!) and we can return full of new plans and goals! For you, our guest, it gives us the chance to better ourselves in all areas from customer service, housekeeping, maintenance, marketing, and more. Very exciting happenings this month!
Love fall decorations!

Once again, try to come and celebrate the Autumn Glory Festival with us but if you can’t get away that weekend, there is still plenty of time to come and enjoy the fall foliage and still so much to do this time of the year (hiking at Swallow Falls State Park, horseback riding, pontoon boat tours, disc golf at Wisp, and the list goes on!) We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Wines & Worlds

Our Fall foliage is breathtaking!
September has taken off with a blast and it’s hard to believe we are already rolling into the 2nd week already. If you were visiting our area last weekend then you may have been lucky enough to attend our annual Deep Creek Art & Wine Festival. What an awesome turnout! There was a large variety of not just wine samples but a lot of awesome artisans and vendors. Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales was there and we loved seeing so many of our homeowners and guests enjoying themselves. (Sandwiched between Deep Creek Sweets and Firefly Farms was a little rough. The smell of delicious fudge, smooth goat cheese and every wine imaginable was beyond tempting; we did some shopping on our own!) The Bounce House was a great hit with the kids and everyone enjoyed dancing and singing along to the various bands that were playing. Such a fun event! If you missed this year, please mark your calendars now and plan to attend!

Casey & Devin in prep mode!
The countdown to the Worlds Canon/Slalom Championships being held here in McHenry is on with the official World Championship Kick Off beginning Wednesday September 17th and ending on Sunday the 21st. As I type this, there are many different nations staying here at Deep Creek and practicing at ASCI in preparation for this historical event (There eventually will be over 35 nations here during the event itself! Wow!  Four full days of the world’s best canoers and kayakers competing for the title of #1. Definitely an exciting time to visit us here at Deep Creek. If you haven’t made your plans yet for this amazing event, call us here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com) and let us help you find the perfect home for you and your guests. Tackling the course!
Give us a call today because we can’t wait to see you at the lake!

It’s Almost Game Time….

It’s coming. All of the pre-signs are evident; the air is beginning to get a little chilly (not quite crispy yet but it is noticeable), a tree, here or there, is getting a little antsy and turning a few leaves orange and red, kids are stuffing their backpacks and of course, pre-season football is upon us! Yes, my friends, fall is right around the corner. As I have been telling you now for several falls, this is my all-time favorite season at Deep Creek Lake! The mountain side just lights up in a blaze of vibrant hues, the lake takes on a sparkly blue, and the festivals are many! We here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales love any chance we can to celebrate, so what better way than offering huge fall savings on a September stay in our premiere Deep Creek home known as Celebrations at Deep Creek. This immaculate 8 bedroom lakefront home has everything you and your family could want for a true dream vacation. With 3 levels of living space, there is more than ample room for everyone to spread out and engage in their favorite activity. Let the adults gather in the beautiful Great Room which showcases cathedral ceilings, a massive stone fireplace and large floor to ceiling windows. The kids can choose either play foosball in the lower level Family Room or billiards in the loft. For those that just want to kick back, breathe, and take it easy, they may enjoy taking a soak in one of the jetted tub, relaxing in the sauna, easing sore muscles in the outdoor bubbling hot tub or just enjoying a cup of tea on the wraparound deck as you enjoy breathtaking lake views.
And let us not forget the Pièce de résistance, the private indoor swimming pool (one of the largest in a vacation home in Deep Creek Lake!) Colorful murals give this pool area extra character along with the brightly hues Adirondacks that line the room. Raining outside? Who Cares? Imagine spending endless hours of fun splashing and playing without leaving the home? Swimming in the lake is certainly still an option. Your community dock slip is just steps away. Bring a boat or rent one locally and keep it at the home so that you can come and go as you please! Okay, so now that we have sold you on the idea, how about throwing in an incredible, can’t pass up kind of deal? Rent any 2 nights now in September and get the 3rd night free plus a 20% discount off any available dates. Yes, we are serious and you did read correctly. Give us a call here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com) and let us help you create that dream vacation for you!

For those that are not yet ready to give up on summer, days are still beautiful and warm, and lake is calling. We are now offering 3 nights for the price of 2 for Labor Day weekend, so call now! We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Go Team USA!

My job has many perks and today was a perfect example of that! When I was told that I was going to interview the Olympic C-1 Slalom paddler that Taylor-Made is sponsoring for the Deep Creek 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, I was excited! How often do we have someone from Team USA walk through our front door? Casey Eichfeld is a 23 year old young man who has been canoeing for as long as he can remember and actually began slalom racing at the age of 5. He is currently ranked as the top C1 paddler in the United States. He hails originally from Pennsylvania, has impeccable manners, and you can tell that he generally loves what he does for a living. When he isn’t spending time training for events, he uses his time to teach and coach group and private clients around Charlotte, NC where he currently resides.
He is a world traveler visiting many different cities and actually just came back from Prague where he came away as National Champion of the C-1 Slalom race! He is a 2 time Olympian and we @ Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations are proud and excited to be sponsoring him and helping me to obtain his dream!
Interesting facts about Casey (I give credit to the off the wall ones to Chad who thought my questions were to “ordinary”):

·        Casey trains on average 20 hours a week which includes time in the water and in the gym.

·        In Sports Illustrated for Kids September 2000 edition, Casey was listed as a future “Olympic Hotshot”

·        Once in Beijing, Casey had the chance to eat a scorpion on a stick. He declined.

·        Casey paddled whitewater from the time he was 2 years old

·        Casey took dance lessons for 7 years to help with balance and flexibility for his back

Best of luck to you Casey! You truly are a remarkable person and we look forward to watching you thrive!

Festival Fun!

Autumn Glory Parade
Springs Folk Festival!
If you are joining us here at Deep Creek Lake sometime in the next week or two, I would suggest that you bring a sweater as the temperatures at night are beginning to cool down. Perfect bonfire weather if you ask me! There are some exciting events happening around the lake in the next month so now is the perfect time to plan a fall retreat.
The weekend of October 3rd is the annual Springs Folk Festival held in Springs, Pa, which is just a mere 30 minutes from Deep Creek Lake. This festival is a celebration of the arts, skills, and labors of their forefathers. Guests will be able to wander around the grounds and observe the women weaving and baking bread while the men replicate the days of threshing grain and hewing logs. Continuing performances of blue grass and gospel music can also be enjoyed throughout the weekend. Visitors will also have the chance to view the wares of over 140 artisans who will be showcasing paintings, baskets, wood carved furniture, quilts and more. Find you inner-kid again and enjoy the fresh made lollipops, kettle corn, and homemade ice cream. Authentic Dutch style food can also be tasted with sausage meals, pancakes, bean soup and fresh baked bread. If you are looking for something unique but fun and family-oriented, make the short drive to check it out!

The beauty of Deep Creek in the fall!
Speaking of festivals, it’s hard to believe but our Autumn Glory Festival is just around the corner coming up from October 10-13. Aside from the big Autumn Glory Parade, there is also the Fireman’s Parade, the Band & Color Guard competition, car shows and craft and antiques shows just to name a few. It’s one of the best times to visit Garrett County. If that doesn’t convince you, then simply come and enjoy the breathtaking fall foliage that takes over our area at that time of year! Call us at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations and let us help you find the perfect home for your Deep Creek stay (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com). Can’t make it that weekend? Let us know your dates and not only will we help you find the perfect home but we will give you lots of ideas of activities to do while you are visiting us! The air is crisp, the sun is shining and we can’t wait to see you at the lake!
