When you visit Deep Creek Lake, the scenic beauty and endless activities will draw you back year-after-year. Summer is one of the most popular times for families and friends to gather at a Deep Creek vacation rental to make “mountain memories”.
Here are a few of our favorite photos that we hope will inspire your first visit or a return trip to visit Deep Creek:
If you are planning a Deep Creek Lake summer vacation for your family, chances are you can’t wait until it is time to pack up the car and head to the mountains. Getting away with family is an opportunity to enjoy uninterrupted time with your favorite people as you make memories that will last a lifetime. It is one of the best ways to bond and build relationships.
Here are our tips for making the most of your Deep Creek Lake summer vacation:
Let the kids help plan the trip. Give them a chance to pick out an activity they want to do or a place they want to eat. They will love having a chance to contribute. Kids love visiting the aviary at the Discovery Center, riding the mountain coaster at Wisp Resort and kayaking at DCL State Park. Mountain State Brewing Co. has board games to keep you busy while you wait for your flatbread, the 26 inch “Abondanza” at Brenda’s Pizzeria is always a crowd pleaser, and be sure to check out The Greene Turtle’s Mac & Cheese.
Take lots of pictures. Beautiful sunsets happen every night and are best viewed from homes facing the lake’s western shores. Herrington Manor State Park is also a great spot to watch the sunset. The water is often very still with great reflection that makes for a lovely photo. Dramatic selfie backdrops are around every corner at Deep Creek Lake – from towering waterfalls and a man-made whitewater course to pristine forests and soaring lake views. Vacation rentals are more popular than ever! According to a 2015 Phocuswright study, 1 in 3 travelers chose “private accommodations” over staying in a hotel.
That being said, there are still a lot of folks out there that haven’t experienced the perks of staying in this type of Deep Creek lodging option. I put together 6 reasons to rent a Deep Creek vacation home instead of staying in a hotel.
When you’re searching for the perfect Deep Creek Lake vacation rental for your family, there are a variety of things you look at – Does it have the right number of bedrooms? Is it in the location that you love best? How many can it accommodate? Of course, the most important criteria is the price of the home and if it is within your budget.
Recently, HomeAway, VRBO, and VacationRentals implemented a “traveler fee” to reservations booked through their websites. It varies from 4%-10% of the total value of the booking (not to exceed $499). When booking through these sites, you can review the fee by looking at “view details” of the booking section.
Why pay more for your vacation when you don’t have to?
We list our homes on these sites in order to give our properties maximum visibility. In light of this recent change, we encourage you to make your reservations for Deep Creek Lake vacation homes directly through www.deepcreekvacations.com or call 1-866-351-1119.
We appreciate our guests and understand that vacations are an investment. We always want you to get the best value when you choose one of our homes.
Recently, Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales proudly announced that Betsy Spiker Holcomb is now a co-owner of our Real Estate Company. The excitement continued when we got to announce that Betsy also brought her Real Estate Team with her which consists of Bob Holcomb, Karen Myers, and Karen Doerr. Each member has worked with Betsy for many years and together the team brings a true sense of unity as well as their vast knowledge of Deep Creek Lake and Real Estate experience.
Bob Holcomb has over 23 years of experience in golf course construction including the impressive Lodestone Golf Course on top of Wisp Mountain. He quickly fell in love with Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County. As a Buyer Specialist, he uses his extensive knowledge and wisdom of the area, to assess his client’s needs and is a true asset to the Real Estate Team. Asking Bob how he felt about joining the Taylor-Made team he quoted, “I couldn’t be more excited to have this opportunity with such an amazing group of people. Taylor-Made is a family-based business that treats their employees and clients with integrity and respect. You can feel the positive and professional aura when you walk through the door. With the combination of a strong support staff and the use of cutting-edge technology, I think we can represent a significant portion of the real estate market share at Deep Creek Lake.”
Well-known throughout the area, Karen Myers is a true real estate consultant and brings a wealth of Garrett County Real Estate knowledge and experience to both buyers and sellers. Her list of accomplishments is immense as she as taught the real estate pre-licensing course or trained nearly 40% of Garrett County Realtors, assisted in the development of 50 subdivision communities, guided a Planned Residential Development and dealt with governmental regulation at all levels- local, state and federal. It’s easy to see how her keen insight into Deep Creek Lake real estate will benefit area buyers and sellers as well as our team.
Karen Doerr is a licensed Assistant, Transaction Coordinator and Marketing Specialist to Betsy and her team. She has handled the marketing of hundreds of properties over the last 12 years and is the very best at what she does. Clearly her experience and background will be greatly appreciated by both the Taylor-Made Team and to the clients that she interacts with on a daily basis.
As the Taylor-Made Family continues to grow in both the Real Estate field and Vacation Rentals, our goal of “Creating Memories & Exceeding Expectations” is still and always will be a #1 priority. We can’t wait to see you at the lake!
There has been a whirlwind of enthusiasm swirling around the Taylor-Made offices these days! The obvious being the snowfall we received this week and that Wisp is now ready to handle the many skiing enthusiasts that are joining us in the mountains this weekend! Not only does Wisp have a bevy of fun filled activities going on, it’s also the perfect time to go hiking in the numerous State Parks in our area! We are looking forward to greeting our guests and helping them plan an adventurous weekend!
Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales is also very excited and pleased to welcome Betsy Spiker Holcomb as the co-owner of our Deep Creek Real Estate Division. Betsy, who was born and raised in Garrett County, brings a vast knowledge of Garrett County and an extensive background of Real Estate experience with her.
Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations hit a milestone in 2014 with the expansion of a new Real Estate Division to the company. Acknowledging that a large portion of vacation rental homes were on the real estate market, it seemed only sensible to create a “one stop shop” for both buyers and sellers to handle all of their real estate and property management needs. Proudly welcoming well known Real Estate Agent & Sales Broker Jay Ferguson as co-owner, this vision quickly came to fruition. The company has continued to thrive and the Real Estate Team was proud to say that by the end of 2015, over 55 homes were sold with $16 million in volume.
Recently, Betsy made the choice to become co-owner of the Taylor Made Real Estate Company. Jay stated, “I am thrilled to add Betsy to our Taylor-Made family. It’s incredibly rare to add an agent with such an established brand and with such vast experience, let alone her production in our market. Perhaps the most impressive to me is her hands-on involvement in our community and her commitment to excellence.” Betsy, we warmly welcome you to the Taylor-Made Family!
Well, it’s official. We are not going to have a white Holiday this year. Since this is clearly not something that anyone can control, I think that we should just embrace it and take advantage of how comfortable it is outside. No need to dress in multiple layers and put on a snow suit just to go to the store. On the serious side though, it is nice that we can still go to the state parks and hike around. People are still jogging down Deep Creek Drive and there are several activities going on at Wisp right now (mountain coaster, canopy tours, Segway tours, and the ice skating rink). Besides if you are a last minute procrastinator and still having shopping to do, it’s much easier to lug your shopping bags from store to car when it’s not 10°. It will snow soon and balance will once again be restored to our mountain life. Taylor-Made employees once went above and beyond for our Holiday donation this year! Each year we choose a different organization or family in need to shop for! Every department pulls together to get the items on their assigned list. This year we choose to donate to Dennett Road Nursing Home, a local nursing home here in our area. We gathered boxes and bags of everything from crosswords puzzles, body wash, socks, blankets, calendars, CDs, and list goes on. It says a lot about our employees and why we are so proud of them. They give often and always in abundance. The satisfaction for everyone is knowing that we helped give to someone in need at this time of year. So, this is a big Thank You & Shout Out to our Taylor-Made Family! Speaking of Taylor-Made, our annual tradition of Santa Claus stopping by the office will be happening on December 24th from 10 am – Noon. Bring your wish list and stop by! We will having cookies, hot cocoa, Holiday stories and you can even get your picture taken with Santa! Fun times! You still have time to plan a last minute trip to Deep Creek for the Christmas Holiday! Can you image the sheer delight from the family to learn that Mom & Dad planned a last minute getaway! We are offering some fantastic last minute discounts so give us a call (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com) and let us help you find that perfect vacation home for your special stay! We can’t wait to see you at the lake!
Exciting things have been going on at the Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales office lately. The first is a shout out and giving props to ourselves! Recently voted #3 in Best New Websites for 2015 by VRM Intel Magazine, we are rather proud of our newest accomplishment. If you haven’t had the chance to check out our new website, please do www.deepcreekvacations.com . Not only is it very User Friendly but the guests are able to basically access any information about the house they are interested in reserving. Bright, bold pictures help you get the complete visual and the list of amenities lets you know what to expect the home to provide. This can be very useful throughout the year but one prime example of this is if the home has Air Conditioning or not. Because our temperatures tend to run lower than most of our surrounding cities, some of the homes do not have AC and simply rely on open windows and ceiling fans. An important fact to check on if this is an essential amenity for you and your guests. Have a really picky and somewhat fussy multi-family that you will be hosting? Go on the interactive floor plan so that you can maneuver your way around the home. This is great when you are trying to figure out sleeping arrangements or just to see the general layout. We’ve also added lots of great local information, your rental information and some fantastic photos as well. Well worth checking out.
The Thanksgiving holiday is quickly approaching and we highly encourage those visiting us during that time to stop over at the Garrett County fairgrounds for the Festival of Trees on the 27th and 28th. Featuring all kinds of beautifully decorated trees, wreaths, crafts and more, it is truly like walking through a winter wonderland. The kids will love getting their picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as getting to sit in Frosty’s sled. A very fun, family friendly way to start off this festive time of year!
Speaking of getting ready for festivities, if you are one of those guests that love to take advantage of Black Friday Specials, then don’t forget to keep an eye out for our mass e-mail, website, and Facebook for some incredible deals on your next Taylor-Made vacation (1-866-351-1119 if you would like to speak to one of our Reservationist!) The weatherman has been whispering the “S” word over the last few days so there is a chance we may see some of the fluffy stuff this weekend. A perfect time to come to the mountains, give us a call. We can’t wait to see you at the lake!
Hard to believe we are already closing out the month of October. Next stage: Snow. At least more than likely we will start to see little flakes here and there. The temperatures are starting to dip at night which means it’s “let’s be lazy & lounge around the fireplace” time. Many of our vacation rental homes have either a wood fireplace or a gas fireplace, as it is a popular amenity that is often requested when a guest is trying to find the perfect home. If you have questions regarding what your home has, please feel free to call in and speak to your Reservationist or go online and check under the Amenities Section. (www.deepcreekvacations.com or 1-866-351-1119).
The Taylor-Made Team recently returned from the Annual VRMA (Vacation Rental Managers Association) conference held in New Orleans this week. It’s always an incredible informative and fun conference which gives us the chance to network and share ideas with others in our industry. It’s also a huge eye-opener on how incredibly large and expansive the Vacation Rental Industry really is! The chance to take classes, boot camps, round tables and presentations by the best in the business is always exciting! The fact that this year is the 30th Anniversary of VRMA definitely added to the excitement.
Our Taylor-Made Family also got in the Halloween spirit today by dressing up and having a pizza party. Major props are going out to our entire Owner Representative staff who embraced the fun and dressed as Cat in the Hat and Thing #1 through Thing #7! A huge thank you to the Taylor-Made bosses for once again treating us to lunch. (If you happen to still be in the area and are hungry, stop by! Someone left it up to me and I clearly over-ordered (normally those maintenance/ hot tub techs/ and lawn care crew devour it all!) Speaking of which, we would like to wish everyone a festive and fun Halloween and certainly hope that you get nothing but treats & no tricks. Don’t forget to change your clocks back an hour this Sunday as well (Spring Ahead; Fall Back!). Give us a call and let us help you plan your next Deep Creek adventure. We can’t wait to see you at the lake!
