Gather the girlfriends or make it a couples retreat & come visit for a weekend full of fun activities. On Friday evening, many of our local dining establishments have planned special wine pairing menus so you can start enjoying the festivities when you arrive. The Wine Festival on Saturday begins at 12 noon and goes to 6 pm while the wine store will continue to stay open until 7 pm. Activities run throughout the day and feature everything from live entertainment, carriage rides, a photo booth and more. Of course there is the reason you came to the festival; the art & wine. Over 30 local artists will be present selling a variety of items like pottery, oil paintings, jewelry, wood carvings and more. Also there will be National Distributors and Maryland wineries there to offer samplings of over 200 different kinds of wine. Definitely something for everyone’s different tastes. The food fare is another great reason to attend. There will be many food artisans there so you can grab a bite while at the festival or choose to take some home with you like Firefly Farms amazing goat cheese or fresh produce and products from Deberry’s Farm. The very best part of the festival? The proceeds go to HART which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets in Garrett County. A huge win-win for everyone! We are now offering last minute discount on all available vacation rental homes so now is the perfect time to call us! Why are you not here?

We are officially in the fall season as the air tends to dip lower in the evenings and the trees are starting to take color. In a few weeks, our leaves will begin to peak just in time for our annual Autumn Glory Festival, which is by far, my favorite Garrett County tradition! Days of fun-filled activities and definitely something for everyone in your group. If you haven’t planned your fall getaway yet, this is the place to be! Days of craft shows, classic car shows, antiquing, Farmer’s Market are just to name a few! The festival is highlighted with a grand parade that winds down through the streets of Oakland, our county seat! Marching bands, clowns, elaborately festive floats, music and the list goes on! Balloons, souvenirs, delicious food vendors, and well…. I said that the list goes on! It’s just such a fun family friendly atmosphere that you must see to believe! If you can’t make it that weekend, please mark a weekend in October to come up and witness the breathtaking fall foliage that is Deep Creek Lake. It’s phenomenal and so peaceful here this time of year! Okay, now the thought is in your head…a weekend at Deep Creek Lake! Are you dialing yet ? Ramp Season is Here!

Docks are going in!
Spring has arrived! We were blessed with gorgeous weather at Deep Creek Lake over the Easter holiday and the temperatures are still rising as I type this. The trees are beginning to bud and the grass is becoming more green and lush. I’ve always been a big fan of the smell of fresh cut grass but the first time you smell it in the spring brings a sense of relief that you can hopefully pack away the winter gear and bring out the flip flops! There are a lot of activities and things to do here at Deep Creek this season and the perfect time for a quick weekend getaway. If you really want to experience some of the unique qualities of our mountainous region, then you should most definitely check out one of the many local Ramp Dinners or Ramp Festivals. If you are unfamiliar with Ramps, they are essentially wild onions that are known for their “Stink”. Ahh, yes, these small round bulbous onions are quite pungent (to smell in general and particularly when ingested). They do however have a wonderful sweet taste. Many local chefs in our area will often creatively use them to create delectable dishes. This Saturday April 26th @ The Deep Creek Discovery Center, they will be holding their 13th Annual Ramp Cook Off where the public is invited to either submit a dish for judging or just be part of the public tasting. The event begins from 11- 1pm. A panel of judges will be judging the ramps on ramp flavor, presentation, and creativity. If you are looking for a fun family activity that also gives you a glimpse into some of our local folklore, you should definitely check it out.
Ramp Season is here!
Kayaking Savage River Reservoir!

Golf is another fun activity to do if you are visiting us this spring. With numerous golf courses in our area, you certainly have your choice of where to play. For those that are staying in our Waterfront Greens Community, you also get free play of the 3 par community golf course. Plan a couple’s getaway and while half the party spends the day on the greens, the other half can schedule one of our local massage therapists to come to the house and do on-site massage therapy. So whether you are coming for specific event or just to get away, there is definitely something for everyone. Give us a call here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations (1-866-351-1119 or online and we will be more than happy to help you plan your itinerary throughout your stay. Fun times at Art in the Park!

Kids enjoying a demonstration!

Summer season is in full swing here in the mountains.  If you happen to be in the area this weekend, I suggest you head over to Deep Creek State Park and check out the annual “Art in the Park” that is being held there this weekend. Guests can wander around the grounds to the various tents and tables to check out the work of some of our local artists. The kids may enjoy some of the various nature programs that are going on throughout the day. Silent auctions and craft demonstrations will also be enjoyed throughout the weekend. Among the various arts available, you will find jewelry, woodwork, fused glass, paintings, furniture, baskets and more. Guests can arrive by foot, car, or boat (there is a small service fee for entrance into the park). Afterwards, take the kids down to the sandy beach area and let them swim and splash around in the water. The beach area boasts a mile of sandy beach and is roped off in the water. Various picnic tables are placed around the beach area making this a perfect spot for a picnic lunch. Art in the Park is definitely a family friendly event that you should consider checking out!

A Lunch Date and Birthday Wishes!

It’s hard to believe that we are already heading into the month of November. It’s sad to see October leave as it is by far my favorite month. How can you not love a month that brings brilliant hues of orange, red, and yellow covering the mountaintop? A month that brings Fall Festivals, Apple Butter, Football, and ends with Halloween and lots and lots of candy? It’s also a fabulous birthday month as well. Now, granted, my opinion is a little skewed and biased due to the fact that we share the same DNA, but October is the month of my firstborn son, Devin’s birthday. This year, we decided to enjoy lunch out together with lakeside dining at Uno’s Chicago Grill. Due to the slightly chilly air, we choose to eat inside but were still awarded with a table by the window that offers fantastic lake views. We decided to split some appetizers so we went with the ultimate nachos and pizza skins. I hate to think of the calories consumed but it was so well worth it. Since the damage was apparently already done, we also split the Reese Cup sundae for dessert. Heavenly! Afterwards, we walked down by the water for some photos. We really had an enjoyable afternoon together. I also like to recommend Uno’s for our guests that are visiting in summer because of the convenience of coming by boat but they also offer a lot of specials throughout the other seasons which they combine to work with The Honi Honi bar located next door. They will once again be kicking off the holiday season with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony held on November 24th @ 7 pm. Bring the kids for pictures with Santa, live entertainment, Christmas carols and free hot chocolate! If you haven’t booked your vacation home for the Thanksgiving holiday, now is definitely the time to call Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations (1-866-351-1119 or online to make sure that you get the home that best suits you and your guests.
As I mentioned earlier, October is an awesome birthday month so we would like to give a Birthday shout out to some of our staff this month! Birthday wishes go out to Linda Winters, one of our beloved hardworking ladies from Housekeeping! From our Reservation’s Department, we give a birthday hooray shout to both Lisa Yommer and Stefany Glotfelty. We are so lucky to have you ladies as part of our team here @ Taylor-Made and we send you heartfelt wishes for a superb birthday!  Ski season is just around the corner so start making your Deep Creek vacation plans right away. We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

We don’t do “small”! We do “GRAND!”

The days of August are flying by just a little too quickly but life in the mountains is still abundant with plenty of activities. Visitors and locals alike are defeating the warmer temperatures by cooling off in the lake or splashing around Swallow Falls State Park.
Life @ Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations has been quite busy these days. On August 24th from 6-8 pm, we are hosting a “Grand Opening” for the public to join us at our new office. Come on out and join us in the celebration and check out our new “Digs”! Light refreshments will be served and tours will be given throughout our main office and our new laundry facility. Our owners and staff will be on hand to show you around and answer any questions that you may have for us. It’s going to be a fun time and we hope to see you there.

Don’t forget to begin making plans to join us for the Annual Art & Wine Festival, held in the heart of McHenry for the weekend of September 7th- 9th. Growing in popularity, the festival is held throughout the weekend beginning with wine pairing at some of our local restaurants on Friday, while the actual festival is help all day Saturday.  Offering kid’s games, prizes, and entertainment, this is a spectacular event for the whole family to enjoy. We offer an amazing package for a mere $45 that gives a $25 gift certificate towards Friday’s pairing, admission to the festival on Saturday, a commemorative wine glass, and free early check in or late check out (dependent on availability). It’s Time to Break the Ice!

Mother Nature was certainly kind to us last week by blanketing the area in lots of pretty white fluff. Wisp has almost all of their slopes open, not to mention the tubing park and ice skating rink. It is definitely a great weekend to be coming into the area. If you want to experience a true ‘Mountain Winter Escape’, then I suggest that you head to Oakland Winterfest! This is one event that I always look forward to! Held in downtown Oakland, visitors will find a true winter wonderland. Going on its 5th year, the event is sponsored by various Oakland businesses and will be held from February 17th to the 19th. What might one find at this Winterfest? The highlight of the event are the amazing and unique ice sculptures that can be viewed throughout the town. Master carver, Bill Sandusky, from Frozen Assets Ice Carving Company will be returning for his 5th year to showcase his astounding talent. Local businesses are given the opportunity to purchase a sculpture that Bill will carve, generally, in an image pertaining to the business. He will do five live carvings on Saturday and “The Tribute to Oakland” on Sunday. The displays are well lit at night and on display until they melt. For the little ones, there is a ice sculpted bowling lane, an actual slide made out of ice, and in ice throne for them to perch on. They will also be able to take home a free personalized block of ice with their name in it. Other activities that will be going on are the snowman building competition, the crowning of “SnowFlake Toddler and Princess”, various craft vendors, and horse drawn sleigh rides by Pleasant Valley Dream Rides. Various dining establishments will be offering hot soup specials throughout the weekend as well. Still unsure? Think hot chocolate! Warm beverages and snacks can also be purchased at several locations throughout the town. If you are looking for some real old fashioned family fun then I highly recommend that you head to downtown Oakland this weekend to check out this excellent event. In the meantime, snow is on the ground, perfect for snow shoeing or cross country skiing. Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations is running some great specials for next weekend, so now is the perfect time to call to reserve your dream vacation home. In the meantime, we can’t wait to see you at the lake!
