Art? Wine? Yes, Please!

Art and Wine   If you haven’t already made plans to attend the annual Deep Creek Art & Wine Festival this upcoming weekend (September 11-13th), it’s not to late! Gather the girlfriends or make it a couples retreat & come visit for a weekend full of fun activities. On Friday evening, many of our local dining establishments have planned special wine pairing menus so you can start enjoying the festivities when you arrive. The Wine Festival on Saturday begins at 12 noon and goes to 6 pm while the wine store will continue to stay open until 7 pm. Activities run throughout the day and feature everything from live entertainment, carriage rides, a photo booth and more. Of course there is the reason you came to the festival; the art & wine. Over 30 local artists will be present selling a variety of items like pottery, oil paintings, jewelry, wood carvings and more. Also there will be National Distributors and Maryland wineries there to offer samplings of over 200 different kinds of wine. Definitely something for everyone’s different tastes. The food fare is another great reason to attend. There will be many food artisans there so you can grab a bite while at the festival or choose to take some home with you like Firefly Farms amazing goat cheese or fresh produce and products from Deberry’s Farm. The very best part of the festival? The proceeds go to HART which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets in Garrett County. A huge win-win for everyone! We are now offering last minute discount on all available vacation rental homes so now is the perfect time to call us! A fun packed weekend enjoyed art and wine with your friends or another weekend of doing nothing! Make it Count! We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

It’s Only Fair to Let You Know….

Everyone loves the Ferris Wheel!

If you are arriving in Deep Creek this weekend, then you can consider yourself extra fortunate, for this week is the Annual Garrett County Agricultural Fair held here in McHenry! That means a lots of live entertainment, fair rides, exhibition booths, farm & tractor demos, and of course, food!! So many yummy options to choose from.  What’s your preference? Candy apples? Funnel Cakes? Personally, I am a cotton candy kind of gal myself. Without a doubt if you do attend, you must stop by the local Rotary Booth to try some of their fresh cut Rotary French Fries. A true Garrett County staple loved by so many! (Did I mention that calories consumed while at the fair have no substance? I’m not sure why but I truly believe in this. I think riding the rides has something to do with it!)

Yum!
For a mere price of $10 per person, you not only get into the fair but you get all access to all of this including the rides! The rides usually run throughout the day with a small break for an hour or so in the early evening and then back and running until 11pm. Throughout each day, you can usually find some entertainment in the stage booth, derbies and demos each evening and of course, you can stroll through the barns at any time to see all of the wonderful crafts and goodies that people have submitted in the hopes of winning the coveted “Blue Ribbon”. It’s also neat to walk through the animal barns to see all of the animals that are local youth so lovingly took care of and raised and are now proudly displaying for show or sale. The fair opens tomorrow night for the rides and then all other activities running through the week until the following Saturday, August 2nd!  For complete details check out their website. http://www.garrettcountyfair.org/ .  It is definitely a fun time for the whole family.

A Chance to Give Back!

Wine Down
Golden Retreat
I believe that people by nature try to be charitable and sometimes you hear about a certain cause or organization that sits close to the heart. When Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales were approached by Operation Second Chance, we knew we needed to try to do something special. This is an organization that’s primary focus is committed to serving our wounded, injured, and ill combat Veterans. They give support to these Veterans and their families generally while they are recovering in military hospitals. Many of these men and women were injured oversees and have to come home to cope with the repercussions of their injuries and trying to readapt to life. Operation Second Chance sets up “Retreats” among various other activities to give these vets and their families a chance to get away to rest, relax, and reconnect with each other. Unless you know of someone that has been in a similar situation, most of us don’t think about how difficult it must be to return to “normal life”. When Frank, our Operation Second Chance contact, called looking for 2 homes that would comfortably host 2 Vets & their spouses for a mid-week getaway to Deep Creek Lake, Jodi began to make some calls. Almost immediately, 2 of our homeowners called and graciously and kindly donated their homes. Golden Retreat, a beautiful 3 bedroom lakefront home with a private dock, will make an excellent choice for one of the couples who have the need for a service learning dog since it is pet friendly. Wine Down, located in the prestigious Mountainside Community, is an immaculate 3 bedroom home that rests on the end of quiet road, the ideal place for a peaceful stay. It is with our sincere thanks to both of these homeowners for their thoughtful gift. If you would like to find out more about Operation Second Chance, please go their website. http://www.operationsecondchance.org/

Training!

Guests that were fortunate enough to visit Deep Creek Lake over the Memorial Day weekend were blessed with some amazing weather. Bright blue skies and lots of sunshine made for playing on the lake ideal. Last week was an exciting week here in McHenry as we welcomed Team USA back to ASCI as they spent the week training! It was fun to watch these superb athletes use their sheer skills and dedication to tackle the man-made white water rafting course which will also be the venue for the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships that are being held here September 17th-21st (Look for more blogs to come on this super exciting event! www.deepcreek2014.com) As always, it was nice to see our sponsored athlete, Casey Eichfeld, who took a few minutes to stop by and say Hello! He along with the rest of team are now over in London getting ready to compete in the World Cup Circuit for the United States! Of course, we wish him the best of luck and a safe trip!
