Well, the fall season is officially upon us, and this Garrett County native could not be more thrilled. There is something almost magical about this time of year in our area. The ruby red, gold, and peach leaves have begun to grace our mountaintops and the air has definitely taken on the cool, crisp quality that I love so much. Preparations are in full swing, throughout the area, for the 43rd Autumn Glory festival that is held in Oakland each year. If you haven’t had the opportunity to experience this wondrous occasion before, I highly recommend it. This 5 day fall festival kicks off on Wednesday with a prestigious fund-raising reception dinner @ Wisp Resort. This is followed on Thursday with the Fireman’s Parade and Oktoberfest. Featuring German-style food, drink, and a live “Oom-pah” band guarantees a good time will be had by all. Saturday is the much anticipated Autumn Glory Feature parade that boasts a bevy of entertainment. You will get to witness everything from amazing floats, marching bands, clowns, and a variety of other unique groups. (My personal favorite has always been watching the Shriners zip around in their little buggies!) Combine all of this with corn mazes, arts & craft shows, and a large variety of food vendors (everyone loves the Rotary fries!) make it a splendid time to visit Garrett County. See ya at the parade!
