While many children and parents were planning their Halloween costumes and stocking up on candy to dispense for Trick or Treating, Garrett Countians were digging out toboggans, mittens, and various winter gear. Candy was replaced instead with ice melt and snow shovels. Hurricane Sandy swept up the East coast earlier this week and blazed quite a trail through our majestic mountains. Over 3 feet of snow fell on the region leaving many with downed trees, electric lines, and without power. Crews from various states have swept in to help and although the clean-up is going to take a while, we feel optimistic that life will return to normal before we know it. A great big huge thank you to the many, many road crews, power workers, and anyone, in general that came and offered their services. Your long hours and tireless effort is greatly appreciated.
On a positive note, the snow enthusiasts are ecstatic over the thought of Wisp Resort opening soon and for the ski season to officially start. We haven’t officially gotten any updates on when they expect the opening day to be but we will definitely keep you posted. Also, remember that to call us at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com) to begin planning your ski getaway. We are once again working with Wisp Resort to offer our guests our “Ski Free/ Stay Free” package. It’s an awesome deal where you can stay and ski 3 nights for the price of 2! We still have some homes available for the Thanksgiving holiday so gather the family and join us in the mountains for a little R & R! If you are in the area over Thanksgiving, I always like to remind our guests about the Festival of Trees, held at the exhibition hall at the Garrett County Fairgrounds, on November 23rdand 24th. Guests can stroll through designer decorated trees, wreaths, centerpieces, and more. Local artisans are on-site for your shopping pleasure. The kids will enjoy having breakfast with Santa, visiting Frosty’s Funland, or get some yummy baked goods from Santa’s Bakery. Adults will also enjoy the Silent Auction that is held on Saturday. It’s definitely a fun family event that is very much worth checking out. http://www.fotgc.com/Pack up your winter wear, grab a sled, and come enjoy the snow with us. We can’t wait to see you at the lake!
