Still Time to Come & Play!!

Fresh Peaches!
August is quickly coming to a close but there is still enough time to get out and enjoy the fabulous weather we have seen as of late. Today finds us bright, sunny, and at a very comfortable 75°. If you are looking for a new twist to your vacation plans, I suggest a day trip to Oakland, our county seat. Located approximately 15 minutes from the lake you will find the necessary stores, such as Wal-Mart, CVS, and Walgreens. The uniqueness comes from the specialty shops and the Farmer’s Market that occurs every Wednesday and Saturday from 10-2. Personally I am not only a sucker for all of the fresh produce but the baked goods are a tempting sight as well. Local farmers, cooks, bakers, and artisans come out to peddle their goods. Table upon table is heaped with fresh ripe tomatoes, corn, eggplant, onions, herbs, and well, you get the gist. Many of the local Amish folks are there with fresh baked goods and some of their homemade crafts. Amazing talent to not only see but you have the opportunity to buy as well. Snap some photos by the bridge that runs over the Yough or stroll through downtown and check out some of the shops (antiques, crafts, and thrift…quite a variety), the Garrett County Museum and the Garrett County Transport museum where you can catch a glimpse of what life used to be like on Deep Creek Lake . The B & O train station is another attraction that offers a neat glimpse into our interesting history. Cap off your day with a stop at one of the local dining establishments (Dottie’s Fountain & Grill has amazing old fashioned milk shakes). It is definitely a great opportunity to experience some small town flair at its finest.

Otherwise, call soon to reserve your home for the Deep Creek Art & Wine Festival (It’s next weekend so call today!! 1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com) The sun is shining, the sky is a brilliant blue and we are still celebrating lake life! We can’t wait to see you at the lake!
