There are two small town holiday celebrations the first full weekend in December. They offer tons of fun for the entire family. Each takes place Friday and Saturday, so that gives you plenty of time to experience both! They are a short 15 minute drive from the Deep Creek Lake area too.
A Great Small Town Christmas
The Town of Oakland hosts A Great Small Town Christmas, December 6th and 7th, 2019. You can enjoy numerous free and family-friendly activities in historic downtown area. It is the perfect opportunity to shop for unique gifts too.

The kick-off is a tree lighting ceremony on Friday, December 6th. It is held at the community Christmas tree (outside B&O Museum) at 6pm. Come out and join us for sleigh rides, carols, store specials, and a special treat from Santa!

On Saturday, December 7th warm-up with Soup N’ Santa! Local non-profit organizations will hand out free soup (donations are encouraged but not required). Visit with Santa at Smoke N Mirrors Photography, from 11am-2pm. Free sleigh rides are happening from 11am-2pm along with live music and local shopping.

–Our Town Theatre Christmas Market December 7th, 9am-3pm. Local artisans, all hand crafted items. Live music, bake sale, and cafe with chili.
–Mountain Fresh Winter Farmers Market December 7 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Community Action Conference Room.
–First United Bank & Trust 4th Annual Christmas Charity Tour of Homes to benefit the Garrett County Habitat for Humanity. This year features another stunning line up of beautiful homes for you to enjoy while supporting a worthwhile charity at the same time.

Christmas in the Village
Spruce Forest Artisan Village is the venue for this small town holiday celebration in Grantsville. It is a magical and fun-filled weekend that takes place Friday, December 6, 4pm-8pm and Saturday, December 7, noon to 8pm. Note that you can park at the Village, but it fills up fast. A free shuttle is available that departs from Grantsville Elementary School.

The village is transformed into a holiday wonderland with luminary lights will fill the pathways. Stroll through the village listening with live music in the background. Browse the selection of artists and vendors located throughout the Village and the Great Hall of the Penn Alps Restaurant.

This fun event includes food, crafts, a scavenger hunt, free popcorn and apple cider along with twinkling lights everywhere. Be sure to stop by Cornucopia Cafe to grab a bite to each and shop at their sister store, Grant’s Mercantile.
