Getting educated in Nashville!

The gang @ The Grand Ole Opry! Yee-Haw!
Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations’ owners and staff just returned from attending the Vacation Rental Managers Association held in Nashville, Tennessee. It was fun, exhausting, educational, and draining all in one. We started off our trip with a tour of Nashville on the first day of our arrival. While the tour bus lacked enthusiasm, the behind the scenes tour of The Grand Ole Opry was pretty amazing. To stand on a stage where so many stars had stood and performed was definitely cool and I’m glad we were able to get a group photo to capture it! Then the hard work began. Each day started off bright and early and entire days were spent attending educational and informative seminars that covered everything from the latest trends in Marketing, how to improve Reservations and Customer Service to information on utilizing the latest equipment and practicing safety issues in Maintenance and Housekeeping. During the breaks, we went to the vendor showcase where you were able to network with other companies to be wooed by the vendors and the services that they provide.

Deep Creek Sunrise
While there, Taylor-Made co-owner, Jodi, was elected to serve on the VRMA Board of Directors. This is very exciting news for our company and for the board in general as we feel confident that Jodi will put 110% effort trying to bring helpful suggestions and ideas to VRMA and all that it entails.

So, what does this mean to you? It means that Taylor-Made believes in the value of staying well educated on all levels of the Vacation Rental Industry and by attending the annual VRMA conference allows them to do this and pass this on to their homeowners and guests. It means that everything we learn, we pass along to our guests whether it’s finding an easier way to help you make a reservation or make a payment or even find a vacation home. From arrival to departure and everything in between, we want to make it fun and as effortless as possible.

Speaking of finding vacation homes, the holidays are quickly approaching so call now to begin planning your next Deep Creek excursion (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com) We can’t wait to see at the lake, y’all!

Your wedding bliss is just a call away!

Deep Creek Lake, located in the lush mountains of Garrett County, is quickly becoming known as a true wedding destination. With the sparkling lake and majestic beauty that Mother Nature provides, it leaves you with a breathtaking backdrop for your special day. Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations is more than willing to help you find your dream vacation home and to help you plan your big day. Amanda, our primary event coordinator, took over this position full time earlier this year and is always more than willing to meet with a prospective wedding party to assess their desires for their wedding day. She understands how difficult it can be to plan a destination wedding and will therefore help recommend special vendors for the big event, whether this is finding a caterer, DJ, tents, or more. She is also trained to know all county regulations such as how many guests a certain house can host, how to arrange for parking to and from the event, or to even help obtain the marriage application itself. Essentially she is there to take the stress off the newlyweds and to help in any way that she can.

A whitewater rafting excursion!

Tackling the rapids
One of the perks of being a Taylor-Made employee is, that on occasion, we get the opportunity to enjoy some of the fun filled adventure that is offered in our area. Today we would like to extend a huge “Thank You” and shout out to ASCI (Adventure Sports Center International) for taking some of our crew on a whitewater rafting excursion! ASCI rests on top of Wisp Mountain and is the world’s only mountaintop whitewater rafting course! It is also the official venue of the 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships which is a very exciting event for our area!
We arrived at ASCI in the late morning and went through a short demonstration on properly gearing up and some valuable safety instruction! With 3 boats and 3 guides, the group circled the 1/3 of a mile loop and even played around a bit. (Watching Shannon and Mandi shoot down one of the rapids was hilarious but they had such a great time!) It takes a lot of concentration but is a terrific teamwork builder so for those guests that are coming to Deep Creek for a work retreat, this is something you may want to consider. Anyone, thank you again, ASCI! We had a wonderful time and now we can’t wait to tell our guests about it! Also a thank you and shout out to Shawn C, one of our photographers, who sometimes guides there. He helped set everything up and even guided one of the rafts. Thanks Shawn!
My view on the way to work!

Festival Fun!

Autumn Glory Parade
Springs Folk Festival!
If you are joining us here at Deep Creek Lake sometime in the next week or two, I would suggest that you bring a sweater as the temperatures at night are beginning to cool down. Perfect bonfire weather if you ask me! There are some exciting events happening around the lake in the next month so now is the perfect time to plan a fall retreat.
The weekend of October 3rd is the annual Springs Folk Festival held in Springs, Pa, which is just a mere 30 minutes from Deep Creek Lake. This festival is a celebration of the arts, skills, and labors of their forefathers. Guests will be able to wander around the grounds and observe the women weaving and baking bread while the men replicate the days of threshing grain and hewing logs. Continuing performances of blue grass and gospel music can also be enjoyed throughout the weekend. Visitors will also have the chance to view the wares of over 140 artisans who will be showcasing paintings, baskets, wood carved furniture, quilts and more. Find you inner-kid again and enjoy the fresh made lollipops, kettle corn, and homemade ice cream. Authentic Dutch style food can also be tasted with sausage meals, pancakes, bean soup and fresh baked bread. If you are looking for something unique but fun and family-oriented, make the short drive to check it out!

The beauty of Deep Creek in the fall!
Speaking of festivals, it’s hard to believe but our Autumn Glory Festival is just around the corner coming up from October 10-13. Aside from the big Autumn Glory Parade, there is also the Fireman’s Parade, the Band & Color Guard competition, car shows and craft and antiques shows just to name a few. It’s one of the best times to visit Garrett County. If that doesn’t convince you, then simply come and enjoy the breathtaking fall foliage that takes over our area at that time of year! So Long to Summer!

The Gang!
Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations’ owners and employees recently celebrated another successful summer season with their annual “End of Summer & BBQ Cook-Off Party!” As a typical Taylor-Made affair, there was an abundance of food, fun, games and prizes. A great time was had by all. An overflowing buffet of food proved once again that there are many talented chefs amongst us (excluding myself as I am officially the “Bring Soda” gal; something I have come to terms with). Justin, from our Hot Tub Department, took home the coveted “Main Dish Grand Prize” for his scrumptious Hawaiian pork and Housekeeper Billi Jean won the “Main Side Dish Grand Prize” for her white potato salad. Both dishes were awesome and deserved to win! (For a full list of the BBQ cook-off winners, see our album on our facebook page.) A big thanks to everyone who put their culinary talents to use and contributed to our table. Joe, Jodi, & Chad continued showering us with goods as multiple other prizes were given out. Tying for 1st place in our “Above & Beyond “contest was Kim G from our Maintenance Department and Chris R from Reservations. They proved that they not only believe in giving the best customer service possible but they are more than willing to go above and beyond to help our guests, vendors, and coworkers! Heather & Jason from Housekeeping took 2nd place as their dedication was shown many times throughout the summer as they were always willing to go the extra mile and step in if need be! Way to go guys!

Taylor-Made would also like to give a heartfelt “Welcome” to all of the Savageman triathletes that are in the area this week. Savageman is an event known as the “voice of melanoma prevention, detection, care and cure.” Stop out and support these athletes at the finish line (Deep Creek State Park). The Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation and Garrett County Health Department will be offering complimentary skin cancer screenings on both Saturday and Sunday from 9:30-2:30. Best of luck to all participants! http://www.winthefight.org/savageman/index.htm In the meantime, Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations is offering some spectacular Fall saving so call today (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com) to plan your future Deep Creek stay. We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Fall, Food, & Fun!

Today is one of those “Wow” kind of Deep Creek days!  Clear blue skies and comfortable 70’s kind of weather. The lake is sparkling and the trees are still full, lush and bright green. September is one of my all-time favorite months! The air starts getting crisp in the evening, perfect for bonfires! Kids settle back into school, everything and everyone starts slowing down just a bit and let’s not forget football season! It’s the best time to gather with friends and family for an extended weekend getting away. “But what is there to do now?” What isn’t there to do? Give us a call at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations and we will help you out. (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com)  If you’re lucky enough to be in the area this weekend, stop by the Garrett County Fair Grounds and check out the Deep Creek Art & Wine Festival that is being held there this weekend. A simple fee of $25 gets you into the festival where you get to enjoy wine samplings, live entertainment, various vendors selling various forms of their art, and kid’s activities. Beat the line and stop by our office and purchase your tickets there!

Deep Creek Discovery Center is beginning their “First Late Summer” Canoe tours this Saturday. Take a leisurely paddle through mountain cove with one of their naturalist! A superb way to celebrate your Saturday. Call soon as space is limited! 301-387-7067

Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations would also like to give a huge shout out and heartfelt thank you to Fred and Christine from The Historic Stone House Restaurant & Country Inn for providing us with a scrumptious catered lunch today! Located in Farmington, PA, The Historic Stone House is a mere 30 minutes from Deep Creek Lake and they offer a full lunch and dinner menu that has something to offer everyone! If nothing else, stop by and check out their bar menu which features over 20 different beers on tap; the perfect place for catching all of the NFL action (or in this case Steeler Football!) I would have loved to add a picture of all of the delicious food they brought but this hungry crew dug in before I was given a chance! Smoked brisket, chicken and pulled pork went perfectly on the fresh made rolls. Fresh made coleslaw, potato salad and everyone’s favorite homemade creamy mac-n-cheese were also part of the menu. Absolutely wonderful food! Again, thank you so much, we loved it! http://www.stonehouseinn.com/dining  In the meantime, the mountains are calling and we can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Celebrating history!

Calling all history buffs! The weekend of September 20th, in Grantsville MD, there will be a celebration for the Cassleman River Bridge Bicentennial. For those of you that are not familiar with the bridge, it is located along the original route of the National Road. It is a National Historic Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a technological wonder of its time; it was the largest single-span bridge in America with its great stone arch. The arch spans nearly 354 feet across the Casselman River with stones laid in a random-coursed ashlar pattern. Not only is it stunning to see, but the Cassleman River Bridge State Park surrounding the bridge has picnic tables and walking trails, making it a wonderful place for a family picnic. This 3 day commemorative event will host activities around the bridge and throughout the town of Grantsville. The bridge is currently closed for renovations but will reopen for foot traffic. Some of the events that are planned are musical entertainment, historical displays and re-enactors, children’s activities, wagon rides, food, souvenirs, and much more. Definitely worth checking out!  http://www.visitdeepcreek.com/pages/CasselmanBridgeBicentennial

It’s hard to believe that Labor Day is here already but that doesn’t mean that summer is completely over. There are still many days left for boating and swimming at the lake. Don’t forget the Deep Creek Art & Wine Festival is the weekend of September 6th. Growing in popularity, this is new “must go to” festival @ Deep Creek Lake. We offer a fabulous package deal which not only gives you a discount on your vacation rental, admission to the park, a commemorative wine glass and more. Call our office (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com) and speak to one of our Reservationist about this fantastic package and to get assistance in finding you the perfect vacation home for you and your guests. The sun is out, the sky is blue and we can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Nature Lovers Rejoice!

Tolliver Falls!
It’s hard to believe that we are already heading into the end of August. Labor is approaching very quickly and kids are getting ready to head back to school. Fall, my very favorite season, will be here before we know it. There is a lot of fun festivals going on in the area in the next few months so now is the perfect time to look into reserving a weekend getaway. Our Art & Wine Festival is coming up on the weekend of September 6thand Autumn Glory extends over the long weekend of October 10-13th. Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations is more than ready to help you find the ideal home for you and your family. Give us a call (1-866-351-1115 or go online www.deepcreekvacations.com)!

Memories are made here!
Now, I realize that my opinion is completely biased but I think life in our mountains provides us with some of the most breathtaking scenery throughout the year. Aside from the natural beauty of Deep Creek and the surrounding lush mountains, we also have Swallow Falls State Park, which houses the largest waterfall in the state of Maryland. It’s highly recommended for nature lovers, especially those that enjoy mountain biking and hiking. Another phenomenal place that I like to recommend is one that is a little less known to the general public. Savage River Reservoir is a 360 acre reservoir that was formed by the Savage Dam which impounds the Savage River.  Located in a canyon, the reservoir is surrounded by a plush mountain landscape making it the perfect place for kayaking and canoeing. It is also well known as a sublime place for trout fishing. Add in the fact that you have soaring bald eagles flying high above you and you will be completely in awe. It is well worth to check it out. If you need our assistance, we can suggest an area vendor that does some amazing kayaking tours (www.allearthecotours.com). Labor Day is coming and homes are going quickly! Call today~ we can’t wait to see you at the lake!

A Birthday Wish with a side of Yum!

So I would like to start this little ditty off with a huge heartfelt “Happy Birthday” shout out to our favorite boss lady, Jodi, who celebrated her special day on the 15th! Happy Birthday Jodi ~ we hope your day was amazing! Seeing this as the perfect opportunity to brown-nose a wee bit, I decided to treat her to her favorite chai tea from Trader’s Coffee House (and maybe help myself to something sweet and frothy in the process)! There is something so invigorating about the smell of fresh ground coffee and one is not disappointed when they step through the door at Trader’s! Immediately engulfed in the wonderful delicious aroma of espresso and fresh baked goods, it is apparent why this is a favorite meeting place for locals and visitors to our area. Hungry? No problem as they offer both breakfast and lunch items as well as a wide variety of pastries, cookies, and quiches. All made fresh daily! Frappe, Cappuccino, Smoothie, Chai tea? So many choices and once you narrow that down, you still need to pick a flavor from the abundance to choose from! Need to do some work, update your facebook status, or just need Wireless Internet in general? Trader’s has this as well! The ambience oozes a casual and laid back vibe, perfect for hanging out while you enjoy a nice hot beverage. If you’re in the area stop in and say “Hello” to Brenda and her wonderful crew or will are always more than willing to assist their customers. www.traderscoffeehouse.com
Labor Day is quickly approaching and now is the time to call Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com) so we can help you find the ideal vacation home for you and your guests.
