Our thanks go out to Angie Bosely and her crew for preparing some wonderful food and for making our office look so pretty and bright! We celebrating by once again allowing Chad, one of our company owners, to poke fun at us by sticking us his JibJab videos (always hilarious and fun!) and ended with our usual exciting game of Yankee Swap! Again, much fun was had by all and again a thanks and shout out to all that helped making it so successful!

It’s Only Fair to Let You Know….

Everyone loves the Ferris Wheel!

If you are arriving in Deep Creek this weekend, then you can consider yourself extra fortunate, for this week is the Annual Garrett County Agricultural Fair held here in McHenry! That means a lots of live entertainment, fair rides, exhibition booths, farm & tractor demos, and of course, food!! So many yummy options to choose from.  What’s your preference? Candy apples? Funnel Cakes? Personally, I am a cotton candy kind of gal myself. Without a doubt if you do attend, you must stop by the local Rotary Booth to try some of their fresh cut Rotary French Fries. A true Garrett County staple loved by so many! (Did I mention that calories consumed while at the fair have no substance? I’m not sure why but I truly believe in this. I think riding the rides has something to do with it!)

Yum!
For a mere price of $10 per person, you not only get into the fair but you get all access to all of this including the rides! The rides usually run throughout the day with a small break for an hour or so in the early evening and then back and running until 11pm. Throughout each day, you can usually find some entertainment in the stage booth, derbies and demos each evening and of course, you can stroll through the barns at any time to see all of the wonderful crafts and goodies that people have submitted in the hopes of winning the coveted “Blue Ribbon”. It’s also neat to walk through the animal barns to see all of the animals that are local youth so lovingly took care of and raised and are now proudly displaying for show or sale. The fair opens tomorrow night for the rides and then all other activities running through the week until the following Saturday, August 2nd!  For complete details check out their website. http://www.garrettcountyfair.org/ .  It is definitely a fun time for the whole family.

We saved you a seat!!
If you haven’t booked your Deep Creek summer stay yet then I suggest you hurry up. August will soon be on us but there is still plenty of time to make plans! Water tubing on the lake, hiking at Swallow Falls State Park, kayaking tours with All Earth Eco Tours (www.allearthecotours.com), white water rafting at ASCI or with one of the local rafting companies! There is so much to do! Give us a call at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacation & Sales and let us help you find that perfect vacation home. Don’t forget that we now do sales as well and Jay and is here and more than happy to help you find that amazing home for you and your family. Give us a call @ 1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com! We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Anglers Welcome!

Our mountain area is finally beginning to bloom! After being covered in white for the long winter season, the sight of buds on the trees and the grass growing green and plush is rather exciting. I even got giddy over watching some ducks playing in a quiet cove last week. Spring in Deep Creek is one of my favorite times as you almost feel like you just woke up from a nice, rested nap. Anglers are beginning to visit now that docks are going in the water and to take advantage of the quiet stillness of the lake during the Spring season. Fishing is a popular activity on the lake at this time and a good time to go, particularly if you are looking for large and small mouth bass and walleyes. Many mornings on the  commute to work, you will catch sight of those that enjoy the quiet solitude of mornings spent on the lake. If you are planning a fishing getaway, make sure to give us a call here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations (1-866-351-1119 or online @ www.deepcreekvacations.com). We can not only help you find the perfect house for you and your party, we will search extensively to find the one has a dock slip or is located on the part of the lake that is known to be a superior fishing spot. One of our smaller homes, Cross the River, is a gorgeous little two bedroom home that is located right on the shores of the Youghiogheny River, also known as a great river to fish, particularly if you’re fan of trout. Imagine spending your mornings and afternoons casting from your very own dock or from the lake’s shores.
For those that have no interest in fishing, now is still a wonderful time to visit for a relaxing weekend in the mountains. Choose to spend the weekend trying out one of our numerous golf courses, go horseback riding at a local stable or head to Wisp for a ride on their mountain coaster. What’s a mountain coaster, you may ask? Basically it is a one to two person (depending on size; think adult and smaller child) coaster that winds down Wisp Mountain. You even control the speed so if you are a big wimp, like me, you can slow it down. The daredevils can go a full 28 miles per hour). It’s extremely fun and a neat thing that you can brag to your friends about! Currently many of our homes are offering 3 nights for the price of 2 through the month of May so take advantage and give us a call. A weekend in the mountains can do wonders! We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

We Are Here To Help!

Moondance
You have procrastinated long enough and now it is time to plan your family summer getaway. Every year you do the “Beach thing” but this year, you have decided to step outside your box and try something new and different. Fortunately you had a co-worker who was telling you about this fabulous getaway that they had to Deep Creek Lake and they rented through this very reliable, friendly and easy to use company, Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com). Once you find out that Deep Creek Lake is only a mere 3 hours away (yep, 3 hours from the Washington/ Baltimore area; 2.5 from Pittsburgh), you are hooked. What now?
Lake views from Little Chapel

Well, you call us and we begin the process of finding the best options that will work for you and your guests. Do you have your week narrowed down? Do you know the number of guests in your party and the # of bedrooms that you need? Tell us about yourself. Do you want to be right on the lake or up on the mountain enjoying panoramic views? Would it be easier if the grandparents stayed in a separate small house nearby? We have many options to choose from and the best part is that every one of our Reservation Specialist has been to our homes. We are extremely familiar with not only the layout and décor of the home but we know the area the home is located, the # of steps to the water or if you have to drive to the state park. Two of our newer homes, Moondance & Little Chapel in the Woods are the perfect example for the above scenario. Moondance is a 4 bedroom chalet that boasts a massive stone fireplace, large wraparound deck, and multiple game tables. Little Chapel in the Woods, located next door, is a small 2 bedroom stylish home. The close location allows the family to share meals together, walk down to their dock slips together for a day of lake fun but at the end of the evening, the grandparents can feel free to retire early while the rest of the kids play billiards and stay up late watching movies.
Lake fun!
Regardless of your circumstance, Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations will do its very best to find the perfect home for you. Not sure where to rent a boat? What will you do on a rainy day? Where’s the nearest grocery store? We can help you with any questions that you may have and will go above and beyond to help you plan your fun-filled Deep Creek adventure. Summer will be upon us very soon. It’s easy, it’s fun and trust me, your family will thank you. Call us today at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacation @ 1-866-351-1119 and let us help you plan your summer vacation. We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Smile and Say “Cheese”!

Yummy bread basket!
A few years ago, Jodi was telling me about this great new shop that opened in Accident (this is the darling little town that many of you pass through on your way to McHenry) where she bought some amazing goat cheese and wine. She suggested I check it out for a future blog. I have been hooked and a big fan ever since. The shop itself is quaint and charming with a wonderful mural spread across the back wall. Of course the first thing I noticed was the large showcase of cheeses. They have a little area set aside where they put various cheeses, crackers, and jams so that you have the chance to sample the different varieties. A large open window allows you to actually watch them make the cheese, a very interesting process to say the least.  They have a nice variety of everything you want with your cheese; wine, crackers, condiments, etc. My favorite by far is the “Black and Blue” which is a black encrusted cheese with a rich, buttery taste. (Tastes great on a spinach salad) The Merry Goat Round is also a must. It’s a beautiful, soft-ripened bloomy round with a nice creamy texture. As mentioned, they will slice samples for you so that you have the chance to pick the ones that would best fit your taste. Not sure on what kind of wine would pair up nicely with your choice? Ask. The customer service is very friendly and helpful. Due to the fact that Mother Nature has decided that we still need more snow, I imagine curling up in front a toasty fireplace enjoying a glass of wine and an assortment of crackers and cheese. So, if you are on your way in to the area this weekend and are passing through Accident, stop in and try some samples. You won’t regret it.
Coming Soon!

Speaking of snow, Wisp is still going strong to the end of the month. Lines are not long and we have been told that skiing is great. Give us a call here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations and we will do our best to find that perfect vacation home for you and your guests. (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com) We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Sunshine & Lattes!

Caramel Latte!
See yourself here!
I believe that there has been a collective sigh of relief heard throughout much of Garrett County this past week as the last snow storm basically missed us. We here in the mountains scoff at anything under 6 inches so the last snowfall had very little impact but did add fresh powder to Wisp’s ski slopes. Today the sun is a bright surreal blue and with the temperatures climbing into the 30’s, it feels like a wonderful heat wave. If you are looking for a last minute getaway, now is the best time to call as we are running some fabulous discounts here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations. Give us a call and we happily assist you in finding a home for you and your guests (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com).
Unforgettable!

When the temperatures drop, it’s always good to have a backup plan of ways to stay warm. Mine now has formed into an addiction of caramel lattes from Trader’s Coffee House located here at the lake. Although I’m not actually recommending that caffeine be your fix, I do highly suggest that you stop by and see Brenda and her crew. A very warm and comfy vibe is felt from the minute you step inside and the smell of fresh baked goods is mouthwatering! They have a toasty fireplace which would the perfect place for reading your morning paper while you sip your coffee. They also offer free wireless internet so for those that need to stay connected, they can do so while stuffing their face full of one her yummy muffins or scones. She also serves a variety of other breakfast and lunch items that are definitely worth trying. Don’t know the difference between a latte or a frappe or undecided on which to choose? Ask Brenda’s staff. They are definitely top notch when it comes to customer service and go above and beyond to help.
The view from my window is shouting “sunshine & fresh mountain air” and there is a caramel latte waiting. In the meantime, we can’t wait to see you at the lake.

Think Snow?

Brody having a blast in the snow!
Apparently someone took that “Think Snow” sign very seriously because it continues to fall. It’s great for those that are visiting our area because ski conditions have been terrific. If you’re not, you should seriously consider it. I tell people that the first few weeks of March are a perfect time to visit. We are past the holidays so there is less people around but still so many options of things to do. Of course, for the skiers, they will love the smaller lines for lifts, rentals, and just around the lodge in general. For those that don’t ski, there are still so many options of things to do. If you haven’t tried snow shoeing, this is a Must! Crede from All Earth Eco Tours (www.allearthecotours.com) does an amazing tour at Swallow Falls State Park. Cross Country Skiing is also a popular sport. Herrington Manor State Park has some terrific trails for this. If you don’t have your own skis, Wisp Resort has a “Nordic Center” where you can rent the necessary equipment. Wisp also offers an ice skating rink and snow tubing park (think of sled riding but without the exhausting hike back up the mountain). Winter adventure not really your forte? Our vacation homes have so many desirable amenities that you will look forward to being “snowed in”. The kids can spend the day outside building a snowman or making snow angels while you sit inside in front of the crackling fireplace reading a good book and sipping a glass of your favorite wine. In the evenings, soothe your tensions away with a soak in the bubbling outdoor hot tub. Foosball or pool, anyone? Many of the homes have game tables, another great way to have fun with family and friends. Sounds inviting, doesn’t it?
Snowy Fun!
Right now, many of our homes are offering 3 nights for the price of 2, an awesome deal and one that should be taken advantage of! Call us here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com) and we will happily help you find that perfect home for you and your guests. I say the best way to beat the winter blahs is to embrace winter. Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and come play in the snowy mountains. We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Deep Creek Dunk~ Do you dare?

Flip flop daydreams!
It appears that we may be getting some warmer temperatures here at Deep Creek Lake this weekend with a high in the 50° realm. A universal “Yay” is being shouted, I’m sure. Living in the mountains of Maryland, we are used to an abundance of snow and colder temps and we take it like champs. However, this is about the time that we all begin to have flip flop daydreams or at least some hope of seeing some color other than white. The timing is perfect since this weekend is the 16th Annual MSP/NRP Deep Creek Dunk! This is such a wonderful cause to support as it helps the Special Olympics of Maryland! People gather donations and rally together to “Dunk” themselves into the icy and frigid waters of Deep Creek Lake! The proceeds of the event go towards helping individuals with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to participate in year round Olympic type sports. This allows them to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with other Special Olympic athletes and the community.

The Dunk activities actually start tomorrow (February 21st) with a kickoff celebration at The Honi-Honi Bar with “Goosebumps and Grapes; An Evening of Fire & Wine” From 6-9 pm, with a $20 donation (to the Special Olympics) you can gather around the large bonfire and taste a variety of wines. Sounds like it will be a lot of fun and again the proceeds go to a great cause. On Saturday, Dunkers and spectators will gather at Uno’s & The Honi-Honi for an afternoon of entertainment, fun, food, and prizes. Over 18 inches of ice was cut out of the water this year so it’s definitely going to be entertaining to watch the waves of dunkers go in and out. People usually get very creative and the costumes can be a hilarious sight to see! The evening concludes with a Post Dunk Bash held at Black Bear Tavern where there will be live entertainment. If you are unable to attend but would still like to donate, please go the website and do so. http://www.kintera.org/faf/home/ccp.asp?ievent=1082163&lis=1&kntae1082163=023CA77D85254206842D7DC272549DD3&ccp=650747

Brody ruling the slopes!
Otherwise, the skiing conditions continue to be awesome and there is still time to take advantage of our “Stay 3 nights for the price of 2!” discount we have going on for some of our participating properties. Give us a call and let us know what you are looking for in a vacation home and we will do our best to find something that works for you (www.deepcreekvacations.com or call 1-866-351-1119). In the meantime, we can’t wait to see you at the lake.

A Land of Fun? How can you resist?

Most of the United States has been getting hit with a cold blast this week although for us here in the mountains, it hasn’t seemed like a drastic change as of yet. Wisp has been taking advantage of the cooler temps and currently have all snow guns fired up as they prepare for the weekend visitors that will be arriving. You don’t have to be a huge fan of the ski slopes to enjoy a visit to our area. Many of our homes offer an abundance of fun amenities. Find a home with a cozy, warm fireplace, a pool or game table, and a large screen TV and you can stay warm while watching the snow dance around outside.
For the kids in your group, I suggest that you check out Funland which still opens on the weekends in the winter season. The moment that you walk inside, you get the sense of “Fun!” Video games are crying out begging to be played. What’s your favorite? I personally rule at Air Hockey and Skee Ball. Most of the games give you a chance to win tickets which can then be redeemed for some really cool prices such as candy or toys. If you are a frequent visitor to the area, you can cash your coupons in and keep the slip to add to the next time you stop in (this is great for those that want to work towards the big, special prizes!). It’s a very fun and relaxed environment and not so big that you need to worry about the kid’s wandering to far from a parent’s roaming eye. It’s also located right in the heart of McHenry so afterwards, you can stop in at one of the local dining establishments and feed the family. Funland has something to offer everyone in your group, regardless of age so make sure you check them out the next time you are in the area!
As the snow continues to fall, this is a great time to call in and ask about some of the phenomenal discounts and packages we are offering for your next mountain excursion. Call us @ Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations today and let us help you pick the perfect home for you and your friends and family (1-866-351-1119 or go online www.deepcreekvacations.com).  We can’t wait to see you at the lake!
