We are sailing into fall and are now starting to see the first changing of the leaves. This weekend is the big SavageMan Triathlon where athletes flock to our mountainous area to tackle our hills with their bikes, swim in Deep Creek and race down our roads! Definitely a competitive sport and one that is intense to watch! Of course we welcome these athletes and their families with open arms! We love that they can participate in such a great charitable event and experience the beauty of our area at the same time. We are also being gifted with dream like weather this week with bright blue skies and lots of sunshine. Temperatures have been ideal and in the mid-70s. This is also the perfect time for evening bonfires. Many of our vacation rentals have outdoor fire pits so if you are planning on visiting us, make sure you let your Reservationist know this so she can help you find one with this particular amenity. Call us at 1-866-351-1119 or go online www.deepcreekvacations.com and click this option when you are putting in your requirements for your search. Speaking of going online, have you checked our newly launched website. As before, it is very user friendly but also has a fresh new look. Not only is it easy to search for a home with your certain criteria but you also see our vacation packages, check out our photo gallery, read our policies and procedures and more. You can also easily navigate over to our Real Estate section for those that are thinking of buying or listing a home. As I continue to somewhat boast, there is also a very thorough and informative 3D virtual floor plan that we now offer for our homes (not all have one right now but they all will in the near future). This is a great tool to have when you trying to see if a house would work out for you and your family. You can go in and maneuver throughout the rooms and floors, perfect for trying to decide who may be sleeping where. I highly recommend you check out (plus it’s kind of fun!)
The Autumn Glory Festival will be here shortly. The entire festival kicks off on Wednesday October 7th and the big parade held in Oakland is Saturday the 10th. There are so many fun filled family activities to do that weekend! By tradition if you do join in the celebration, don’t forget to pick up your turkey dinner. There are numerous dining establishments in the area who join in with awesome local tradition and offer a full turkey dinner with all of the trimmings! Again, give us a call and let us help you find your Deep Creek home! We can’t wait to see you at the lake!
If you haven’t already made plans to attend the annual Deep Creek Art & Wine Festival this upcoming weekend (September 11-13th), it’s not to late! Gather the girlfriends or make it a couples retreat & come visit for a weekend full of fun activities. On Friday evening, many of our local dining establishments have planned special wine pairing menus so you can start enjoying the festivities when you arrive. The Wine Festival on Saturday begins at 12 noon and goes to 6 pm while the wine store will continue to stay open until 7 pm. Activities run throughout the day and feature everything from live entertainment, carriage rides, a photo booth and more. Of course there is the reason you came to the festival; the art & wine. Over 30 local artists will be present selling a variety of items like pottery, oil paintings, jewelry, wood carvings and more. Also there will be National Distributors and Maryland wineries there to offer samplings of over 200 different kinds of wine. Definitely something for everyone’s different tastes. The food fare is another great reason to attend. There will be many food artisans there so you can grab a bite while at the festival or choose to take some home with you like Firefly Farms amazing goat cheese or fresh produce and products from Deberry’s Farm. The very best part of the festival? The proceeds go to HART which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets in Garrett County. A huge win-win for everyone! We are now offering last minute discount on all available vacation rental homes so now is the perfect time to call us! A fun packed weekend enjoyed art and wine with your friends or another weekend of doing nothing! Make it Count! We can’t wait to see you at the lake!
While the temperatures here at Deep Creek Lake have been a little fickle as of late, sometimes plunging into “Whoa! Wake Up!” kind of chilly, the past 2 days have been close to perfection. Bright blue skies, lots of sunshine, and the lake has taken on that dark cerulean blue which adds a certain beauty to the atmosphere despite the fallen leaves. I love this time of year at Deep Creek!
Today is Veteran’s Day and we would like to take the time to honor all of those that have, are, and will serve our country and protect our freedoms! Our gratitude is profound and great!
With that we extend a true thank you and shout out to our very own, Gary Paugh! Gary is our Maintenance Superintendent who proudly served our country in the U.S. Army for 23 years! He is also possibly one of the nicest, hardest working, most genuine kind of guys that you may ever have the pleasure to encounter. To us at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales (1-866-351-1119 or www.deepcreekvacations.com), he is our “Go To, Find the Problem; Fix the Problem” maintenance guy that basically helps keep our maintenance department running so smoothly! Need a special part ordered? Gary’s already on it. Guests call in and can’t figure out how to adjust the heat, Gary will stop by and show them! His work ethic is superior so he is definitely a humungous asset to our company but his awesome attitude and friendly personality make him our friend and favorite coworker! Point~ Every Christmas Gary happily puts on our Santa Claus outfit and poses in front of the fireplace and Christmas tree for pictures of all of the little kids that come to visit. (Yes, even the coworkers joined in because let’s face it, who doesn’t want to tell Santa want they really, really want for Christmas!) Christmas parties, end of summer parties, corn hole or whiffle ball tournaments, soup cook offs, or whatever we here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales want to celebrate, Gary is there ready to have a good time (he also wins a lot of the tournaments and likes to eat a lot so that could also have something to do with it…) So, again, thank you Gary for serving and protecting us and for basically just being you!
Since I’ve already bragged about the awesome weather we are having and since you know that you could really, really use some relax and unwind time, give us a call! Grab the girls for a weekend getaway or just pack up the family and make the short drive (2 ½ hrs from Pittsburgh; a little over 3 from Washington/ DC area!)! Did I mention that we are offering all kinds of crazy specials such as Stay 3 Nights for the Price of 2 and offering discounted 2 night stays (now for Thanksgiving as well!) and we are still in the “off season” rate time period! Insanely awesome specials! Just a call away! We can’t wait to see you at the lake!
My job has many perks and today was a perfect example of that! When I was told that I was going to interview the Olympic C-1 Slalom paddler that Taylor-Made is sponsoring for the Deep Creek 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, I was excited! How often do we have someone from Team USA walk through our front door? Casey Eichfeld is a 23 year old young man who has been canoeing for as long as he can remember and actually began slalom racing at the age of 5. He is currently ranked as the top C1 paddler in the United States. He hails originally from Pennsylvania, has impeccable manners, and you can tell that he generally loves what he does for a living. When he isn’t spending time training for events, he uses his time to teach and coach group and private clients around Charlotte, NC where he currently resides.
He is a world traveler visiting many different cities and actually just came back from Prague where he came away as National Champion of the C-1 Slalom race! He is a 2 time Olympian and we @ Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations are proud and excited to be sponsoring him and helping me to obtain his dream!
Interesting facts about Casey (I give credit to the off the wall ones to Chad who thought my questions were to “ordinary”):
· Casey trains on average 20 hours a week which includes time in the water and in the gym.
· In Sports Illustrated for Kids September 2000 edition, Casey was listed as a future “Olympic Hotshot”
· Once in Beijing, Casey had the chance to eat a scorpion on a stick. He declined.
· Casey paddled whitewater from the time he was 2 years old
· Casey took dance lessons for 7 years to help with balance and flexibility for his back
Best of luck to you Casey! You truly are a remarkable person and we look forward to watching you thrive!
