3 Cheers For Spring!

Checking out a snake!
Ahhh, the sporadic spring season we always seem to have in these beloved Maryland Mountains. I think that this is Mother Nature’s way of always keeping us on our toes. A little bit of snow today and 50° and bright sunshine the following day. Our guests certainly can’t complain as the Wisp Ski Resort is still open and there is still plenty of snow on the mountain. If you have the chance to escape this weekend, I recommend that you do!
The Taylor-Made crew just finished up an exciting week by hosting what is the start of several The Big 8 Seminar~ Tomorrow’s Ideas Today. Bringing together eight various companies involved in the vacation rental industry for 2 days of Boot Camp seminars that cover everything from customer service, housekeeping, maintenance, and more. We here at Taylor-Made are firm believers that the best thing we can do for our guests is to stay as educated and current on all things related to our industry. Having the opportunity to network and share ideas with some of the brightest and best in the business is a wonderful chance to do just that. That and it was a lot of fun.
If you really want to get into the feel of spring than April is a perfect month to take the family to The Deep Creek Discovery Center. Not only is there various events held there this month but anytime is a good time to go and learn about the natural wonders of our region. This interpretive environmental center allows children to see various types of birds of our region in The Aviary or view various wildlife such as snakes, reptiles, frogs, toads, and more. Hands on exhibits include touching old fossils and looking under a microscope to check out Deep Creek’s under water ecology. If you are visiting over Easter, take the kids there to see the Easter Bunny. Bring along six hardboiled eggs and let the kids learn how to dye the eggs using all natural ingredients. This event is held on April 19th from 10 am- 1 pm. It’s a great family event so if you’re in the area, check it out!

If you’re in need of a little R & R, now is a great time to visit Deep Creek. The lake is quickly thawing and before you know it you will be spotting the early morning fisherman enjoying the serenity of a Deep Creek morning. Spring is a great time to come and enjoy mountain hiking and biking as well since you get to witness the mountains reawakening. If that doesn’t convince you, it’s also a great time to take advantage of our out of season rates on your vacation home. As always, give us a call here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations (1-866-351-1119 or online @ www.deepcreekvacations.com) and let us know what you are looking for in the perfect home and we will do our best to match your needs.

Smile and Say “Cheese”!

Yummy bread basket!
A few years ago, Jodi was telling me about this great new shop that opened in Accident (this is the darling little town that many of you pass through on your way to McHenry) where she bought some amazing goat cheese and wine. She suggested I check it out for a future blog. I have been hooked and a big fan ever since. The shop itself is quaint and charming with a wonderful mural spread across the back wall. Of course the first thing I noticed was the large showcase of cheeses. They have a little area set aside where they put various cheeses, crackers, and jams so that you have the chance to sample the different varieties. A large open window allows you to actually watch them make the cheese, a very interesting process to say the least.  They have a nice variety of everything you want with your cheese; wine, crackers, condiments, etc. My favorite by far is the “Black and Blue” which is a black encrusted cheese with a rich, buttery taste. (Tastes great on a spinach salad) The Merry Goat Round is also a must. It’s a beautiful, soft-ripened bloomy round with a nice creamy texture. As mentioned, they will slice samples for you so that you have the chance to pick the ones that would best fit your taste. Not sure on what kind of wine would pair up nicely with your choice? Ask. The customer service is very friendly and helpful. Due to the fact that Mother Nature has decided that we still need more snow, I imagine curling up in front a toasty fireplace enjoying a glass of wine and an assortment of crackers and cheese. So, if you are on your way in to the area this weekend and are passing through Accident, stop in and try some samples. You won’t regret it.
Coming Soon!

Speaking of snow, Wisp is still going strong to the end of the month. Lines are not long and we have been told that skiing is great. Give us a call here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations and we will do our best to find that perfect vacation home for you and your guests. (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com) We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Deep Creek welcomes your Furry Friends!

Layla posing for a treat!

One of the most frequently requested amenities that our guests request is that their vacation home be pet-friendly. Face it, when you are leaving for vacation, you hate the notion that your poor little Fluffy (yes, in my family, we lacked originality when it came to naming our pets; we once had a Guinea Pig named “Pig” ) is stuck in some cage at the shelter. Besides, isn’t he or she part of the family? Don’t they deserve to breathe in fresh mountain air and swim in the lake? Of course! So yes, many of our homes do allow pets (for an additional fee). Deep Creek is actually a very “Pet Friendly” place to bring your furry friends. Many of our state parks allow pets (on a leash, of course) so you can spend the day hiking and enjoying nature. Does your pet friendly home have a dock? Hot summer days spent in the lake are a favorite activity to be enjoyed by all including the Fluffies of the world! There are also some dining establishments in the area that allow you to sit on the patio and dine with your pets.

Buddy love kayaking!
We have a large variety of pet-friendly homes to choose from as well. For the couple’s retreat, our one bedroom lakefront cottage, Skipping Stones, is a perfect choice. It has a nice big yard and a private dock, 2 things that we know for a fact, dogs love! Need a bigger home? American Pride, is an awesome 5 bedroom home located in the prestigious community of Blakeslee. Blakeslee is known for its wonderful walking trails that wind around the lake, an absolute haven for pets and pet owners.

Spring @ Deep Creek
Hate the thought of leaving your furry “Kids” at home? We here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations completely understand (stop into our office on a given day and say “Hello” to one of our mascots, Layla or Poe). We will do our best to help you find the perfect vacation home for you and your pet. The sun is shining, the sky is blue, skiing is prime, and we can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Sunshine & Lattes!

Caramel Latte!
See yourself here!
I believe that there has been a collective sigh of relief heard throughout much of Garrett County this past week as the last snow storm basically missed us. We here in the mountains scoff at anything under 6 inches so the last snowfall had very little impact but did add fresh powder to Wisp’s ski slopes. Today the sun is a bright surreal blue and with the temperatures climbing into the 30’s, it feels like a wonderful heat wave. If you are looking for a last minute getaway, now is the best time to call as we are running some fabulous discounts here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations. Give us a call and we happily assist you in finding a home for you and your guests (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com).
Unforgettable!

When the temperatures drop, it’s always good to have a backup plan of ways to stay warm. Mine now has formed into an addiction of caramel lattes from Trader’s Coffee House located here at the lake. Although I’m not actually recommending that caffeine be your fix, I do highly suggest that you stop by and see Brenda and her crew. A very warm and comfy vibe is felt from the minute you step inside and the smell of fresh baked goods is mouthwatering! They have a toasty fireplace which would the perfect place for reading your morning paper while you sip your coffee. They also offer free wireless internet so for those that need to stay connected, they can do so while stuffing their face full of one her yummy muffins or scones. She also serves a variety of other breakfast and lunch items that are definitely worth trying. Don’t know the difference between a latte or a frappe or undecided on which to choose? Ask Brenda’s staff. They are definitely top notch when it comes to customer service and go above and beyond to help.
The view from my window is shouting “sunshine & fresh mountain air” and there is a caramel latte waiting. In the meantime, we can’t wait to see you at the lake.

Deep Creek Dunk~ Do you dare?

Flip flop daydreams!
It appears that we may be getting some warmer temperatures here at Deep Creek Lake this weekend with a high in the 50° realm. A universal “Yay” is being shouted, I’m sure. Living in the mountains of Maryland, we are used to an abundance of snow and colder temps and we take it like champs. However, this is about the time that we all begin to have flip flop daydreams or at least some hope of seeing some color other than white. The timing is perfect since this weekend is the 16th Annual MSP/NRP Deep Creek Dunk! This is such a wonderful cause to support as it helps the Special Olympics of Maryland! People gather donations and rally together to “Dunk” themselves into the icy and frigid waters of Deep Creek Lake! The proceeds of the event go towards helping individuals with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to participate in year round Olympic type sports. This allows them to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with other Special Olympic athletes and the community.

The Dunk activities actually start tomorrow (February 21st) with a kickoff celebration at The Honi-Honi Bar with “Goosebumps and Grapes; An Evening of Fire & Wine” From 6-9 pm, with a $20 donation (to the Special Olympics) you can gather around the large bonfire and taste a variety of wines. Sounds like it will be a lot of fun and again the proceeds go to a great cause. On Saturday, Dunkers and spectators will gather at Uno’s & The Honi-Honi for an afternoon of entertainment, fun, food, and prizes. Over 18 inches of ice was cut out of the water this year so it’s definitely going to be entertaining to watch the waves of dunkers go in and out. People usually get very creative and the costumes can be a hilarious sight to see! The evening concludes with a Post Dunk Bash held at Black Bear Tavern where there will be live entertainment. If you are unable to attend but would still like to donate, please go the website and do so. http://www.kintera.org/faf/home/ccp.asp?ievent=1082163&lis=1&kntae1082163=023CA77D85254206842D7DC272549DD3&ccp=650747

Brody ruling the slopes!
Otherwise, the skiing conditions continue to be awesome and there is still time to take advantage of our “Stay 3 nights for the price of 2!” discount we have going on for some of our participating properties. Give us a call and let us know what you are looking for in a vacation home and we will do our best to find something that works for you (www.deepcreekvacations.com or call 1-866-351-1119). In the meantime, we can’t wait to see you at the lake.

Everyone in the family loves DCL but now comes the grueling task of finding that perfect vacation home. A home that will comfortably host several families including grandparents, children of varying ages, and let’s not forget your lovable but extremely picky sister-in-law. Nothing but the best will do! Does Grandma like to be right on the lake or does she prefer being on the mountain enjoying panoramic lake views. We try our best to find the home that matches your needs and the needs of your family. Your expectations for these homes should be high, as ours are. This is why they are “elite”.
Winter Wonderland!
This program also offers a variety of different sized homes to choose from. Don’t need a large home? No problem. Cedar Shores Villa # 8 is luxury townhome located in the heart of McHenry. This home boasts stunning décor, breathtaking views of Wisp’s illuminated ski slopes, and would be perfect for a couple’s getaway.
For the family that just wants to get away but still needs all of the comforts of home and more, Donovan’s Dacha is a smaller 3 bedroom elite log home that would be a perfect!
Donovan’s Dacha

Call us today because we can’t wait to see you at the lake!

A Mountain of Options….

Ben & Brody: Kings of the Ice Throne
Mother Nature decided to take the “Think Snow” idea very seriously as the fluffy whiteness continues to blanket the area. Much colder than normal temperatures have been upon our area as of late; not just us but extending to the whole East coast and Midwest. All we can suggest is to bundle up and stay warm! As we get closer to the month of February, we have a lot of activities to look forward to! The weekend of President’s Day generally gives the population an extra day off, so that is always a reason to get away from the hustle and bustle but that particular weekend is also the 7th Annual Winterfest celebration held in downtown Oakland. If you are a fan of the quaint and charming small town flair then this event is perfect for you. Expert Ice Sculptor, Bill Sandusky, will once again be there tackling the large blocks of ice and turning them into beautiful sculptures. Throughout the town, these ice sculptures will be on display. There will also be vendors, games, live entertainment and various crafters around to keep you entertained. Stop by, grab a cup of hot chocolate, play ice bowling, pose with the sculptures and basically embrace the graciousness that is Oakland.
Wisp has been reporting that skiing conditions have been great lately with all of the fresh powder. Not a skier or a fan of snowboarding? There are so many other choices of activities to do! I personally, am a fan of snow tubing. It’s essentially sled riding except instead of trekking back up the hill yourself, you get pulled up by your tube. A win-win in my opinion! Embrace your inner Yamaguchi and try out the ice skating rink. Creating the perfect winter wonderland ambience, the rink is entwined in twinkly lights and complete with a large outdoor fire pit. Still unsure? There snowmobiling, snow shoe tours, cross country skiing, the list is long and guaranteed to offer something for everyone in your group. Beat the winter blahs with an invigorating and adventurous mountain escape to Deep Creek Lake. Call us (1-866-351-1119 or go online www.deepcreekvacations.com) and Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations will happily assist you in finding that perfect home for you and your guests. We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

I do @ Deep Creek!

Amanda @ the TMDCV booth!
I recently had the privilege of attending Cavanaugh’s Bridal Show held in Pittsburgh with our Event Coordinator, Amanda. I was a definite 1st timer so with that in mind, I had absolutely no idea of what to expect. First impression “Wow!” It was amazing and I know this sounds a little girly, if you may, but it was so pretty. Every detail that you would need to know in order to have a successful wedding, you would find here. How are you going to get to your wedding? Limo, of course. But here comes the interesting part, you now have options of what kind of limo? Certain color? Certain decorations? Music? Throughout the showcase, vendors were set up and ready to show the potential brides all of the different options that they offer. There were many mannequins dressed in bride gowns and bridesmaid’s dresses. On occasion, a Bride model would glide by. So many music options. There were many disc jockeys to choose from (I was little jealous that we weren’t closer to them as they were definitely the “fun group” to be around.) How about a violinist? Bagpipes? The choices seemed endless.
Bridal Puppy!
Candy Buffets are very popular!
We were there, of course, as the “venue”. Why would you choose Deep Creek as your wedding destination? This is a no-brainer to us. Lush gorgeous mountains, a spectacular sparkling lake; clearly Mother Nature went out of her way to bless us. Surprisingly, a lot of people have not heard about Deep Creek so we were happy to tell them about it. The view from my window tells me that the snow is still floating down to the ground outside. Picture now, a winter wonderland wedding. We have that. Is Fall your favorite season? Our mountains pop with vibrant hues of orange, yellows, and reds creating a breathtaking backdrop for your special day. How about lakefront with Deep Creek shining blue and bold behind you? So, yes, we went to try to spread the word about Deep Creek.
In the meantime, we also came home with a plethora of new ideas to provide to our brides. (Did you know that photo booths and candy buffets are very “in” right now in the wedding world?) Amanda made a great deal of new contacts, which adds to list of services and knowledge that she can bring to her brides. All in all, it was a very successful trip and we came home ready to brainstorm.
Again, the snow is still coming down so now would the perfect time to plan a weekend ski getaway. Wisp is going full force so take advantage of the weather and come and play in the mountains. Give us a call @ 1-866-351-1119 or go online www.deepcreekvacations.com and we can assist you in finding the ideal vacation home for you and your guests. We look forward to seeing you at the lake!

A Land of Fun? How can you resist?

Most of the United States has been getting hit with a cold blast this week although for us here in the mountains, it hasn’t seemed like a drastic change as of yet. Wisp has been taking advantage of the cooler temps and currently have all snow guns fired up as they prepare for the weekend visitors that will be arriving. You don’t have to be a huge fan of the ski slopes to enjoy a visit to our area. Many of our homes offer an abundance of fun amenities. Find a home with a cozy, warm fireplace, a pool or game table, and a large screen TV and you can stay warm while watching the snow dance around outside.
For the kids in your group, I suggest that you check out Funland which still opens on the weekends in the winter season. The moment that you walk inside, you get the sense of “Fun!” Video games are crying out begging to be played. What’s your favorite? I personally rule at Air Hockey and Skee Ball. Most of the games give you a chance to win tickets which can then be redeemed for some really cool prices such as candy or toys. If you are a frequent visitor to the area, you can cash your coupons in and keep the slip to add to the next time you stop in (this is great for those that want to work towards the big, special prizes!). It’s a very fun and relaxed environment and not so big that you need to worry about the kid’s wandering to far from a parent’s roaming eye. It’s also located right in the heart of McHenry so afterwards, you can stop in at one of the local dining establishments and feed the family. Funland has something to offer everyone in your group, regardless of age so make sure you check them out the next time you are in the area!
As the snow continues to fall, this is a great time to call in and ask about some of the phenomenal discounts and packages we are offering for your next mountain excursion. Call us @ Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations today and let us help you pick the perfect home for you and your friends and family (1-866-351-1119 or go online www.deepcreekvacations.com).  We can’t wait to see you at the lake!

Our homeowners, who trust us with the care of their home and soundly take advice on how to make sure their home suits the needs of our guests. Our guests, whether they are first time renters or those who faithfully stay with us time and time again, you are what makes us try to be the best we can.
