Spotlight On Wings & Wheels Fly-In at the Garrett County Airport

The Garrett County Airport hosts the Wings & Wheels Fly-In each August. The 2018 date is August 18th. It is a free event that is fun for the entire family!

Event Details

Come out to the Garrett County Airport from 10AM-3PM! It is a rare chance to get up close and personal with airplanes and classic cars. In the past, there have been biplanes, small jets, restored warbirds and many other models. Also, you can see helicopters and emergency vehicles. The Mountain Top Cruisers Car Club from Oakland brings antique cars, hot rods and dragsters from the 1950s to the present.

The Garrett County Fair also gives visitors a glimpse into Garrett County’s agricultural community. It is a key part of the area’s heritage. Many local children are involved in 4-H and enter animals that they raise. This is a family tradition that goes back decades.

Our team has also helped more of our clients get contracts and closings this month than this same time last year. With less than 500 homes on the market for buyers to choose from, buyers feel an increased sense of urgency, and sellers are seeing fewer days on market and closer margins between listing and selling price. *Homes sold in 2018 have closed an average of 46 days faster than the same time period in 2017!*

As the summer market grows, so does our office. In addition to adding new agents, we are also expanding our office space. While that is good news, so is the average sales price on lake area homes. Coming in at $569,620 for the month of May, we are seeing a 10% increase over last year at this same time. This summer is going to be hot! Inventory continues to be trending lower that the previous years.

The theme for their summer game is “Detention Breakout”! This is a reality game where you are put in a room and must use team work and problem solving to complete puzzles with clues, hints and strategy to ‘escape’ the room in a set amount of time.

The Manor Steakhouse
Opening in late spring 2018, this Oakland landmark is under new ownership. Serving lunch, dinner, drinks and Sunday brunch, their menu is yet to be unveiled but will feature the freshest of ingredients.

Sang Run State Park
Deep Creek’s seventh state park opened last fall. Formerly a farm, there are 77 acres to explore that include an old-fashioned general store and access to the Youghiogheny River. Volunteers open the Friend’s Store each Monday in July and August to sell locally hand made crafts and food snacks reminiscent of country living and trade stories of the history of the area. There are also guided hikes that are led by naturalists from DCL State Park. Check the Discover Center website for more details.

April 2018 Real Estate Update

Flowers are starting to pop up for a late start to spring, trees are beginning to bud and the Deep Creek Lake real estate market is starting to wake up.

April 2018 Real Estate Update

The inventory in Garrett County grew a little to 338 homes but more importantly the sales are climbing out of the early year slump with thirty-eight homes sold in the past thirty days. Fourteen of them were lake area sales which is down over last year at this time, but still showing signs of a growing market.

The average sales prices was over $390,000 with the highest price sold being just under $1 million. Homes priced between $300,000 and $500,000 have been especially popular in the past few months. That has been a struggling market last few years as more of the higher priced homes were gathering more contracts.

10 Years of Deep Creek Vacations!

We are celebrating 10 years of Deep Creek vacations! There have been many changes in the past decade, but our commitment to our guests, home owners and the community remains steadfast.

the beginning

Jodi Taylor Refosco, her husband, Joe Refosco, and her brother, Chad Taylor, started Taylor-Made in April of 2008. Each had many years of experience in the vacation rental and hospitality industries. Chad and Jodi were continuing a tradition that was started by their parents, Zachary and Linda Taylor, who previously owned a vacation rental firm.

With only one home and no employees, Jodi, Joe and Chad did everything themselves. From lawn care and maintenance to reservations and housekeeping, the trio built the company from the ground up.

They started with the mission statement “Creating Memories & Exceeding Expecations”. Their goal was to help both guests and owners create lasting memories in a place that they love while providing exceptional customer service. That is still the philosophy of the company today. Your Deep Creek Lake Real Estate Update

Winter is still holding on and giving us a few more blasts of snow, just like our inventory of homes. The number of homes on the market is still lingering around 330 in all of Garrett county with a little more than half of them being lake area homes. The activity is typical for this time of year and has slowed down in the past couple of months.

We recently partnered with Rental Guardian. They offer Cancel for Any Reason coverage. If you cancel for a covered reason, they cover 100% of your reservation cost.

Covered reasons include (but are not limited to):

-A death in the family
-Required to work
-Extension of the school year
