Happy New Year from Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations!
Gearing up for the holidays! It is only 2 degrees in Deep Creek Lake today and (-)18 degrees with wind chill. We only received a dusting of snow last night but they are blowing snow at Wisp. Wisp has currently an average base of 12-40 inches, with 18 slopes open and all lifts are open except for the surface tow at the bottom of Face.
Today marks the first day of sunday alcohol sales in Garrett County for some establishments. Many restaurants can now serve a drink with a meal on Sunday’s in Garrett County. The voters of several election districts recently approved Sunday alcoholic beverage sales at restaurants when dining. The rules basically allow restaurants to serve guests beer, wine or cocktails after the purchase of a meal between 1:00 PM and 10:00 PM every Sunday. Eight years ago the law passed for Savage River Lodge and the Avilton Inn. This time around Wisp, Cornish Manor, Pine Lodge Steakhouse, Will O Wisp, Uno’s, Smiley’s Pizzeria, The Hen House and Sante Fe and some other establishments join the ranks of those establishments allowed to serve guests beverages with their meal. Package alcoholic beverages are still not allowed to be purchased on Sundays. Taverns also remain unable to serve alcoholic beverages on Sundays.
Even though the bad weather made it hard to get out Tuesday night, we all still could not miss dinner with Santa Claus! We met up at Uno’s Pizzeria at 5:30 to see Santa Claus and have a great dinner at Uno’s. Chase, my nephew, came in running to tell Santa Claus about the spy gadgets he wants for Christmas. Adeyln was a little shy, but warmed up quick after seeing Brody (my son) get up there giggling when Santa Claus sat him on his lap. We were seated right next to the window where we can overlook the lighted tree outside! My neice and nephew were amazed to see Santa’s sleigh parked in the rafters of Uno’s ceiling. But of course, were wondering where exactly were his reindeer (eating grass outside by the tree)! Dinner was great, I split the triple mushroom cheeseburger with my mother and enjoyed some French onion soup (best in town)! Service was great and we even got a chance to speak with Bill Ingram (Uno’s general manager). LaDonna (Manager) stopped by our table to wish all of us a Happy Holiday! This will definitely be on our calendar for next year.

National Gas Prices Take a Dip
With the snowflakes falling and the holiday season right around the corner, we are seeing an upside to the economy. Gas prices have dipped to a national average of $1.978 for a gallon of self-serve unleaded gasoline according to AAA. This is the first time since March of 2005 that we have seemed the gas prices drop below $2.00.
We are currently seeing our gas prices at $2.05 in the Deep Creek Lake area, which is not too bad for a resort area. Locals are enjoying the cheaper gas prices and lower fuel costs for their homes, while our guests to the area are enjoying a more affordable travel for their holiday season.
