Big news – Wisp Resort opening December 15, 2017, weather permitting!
Wisp Resort started some serious snowmaking efforts the evening of December 6th. The snow guns have been going strong ever since. Cold temperatures in the extended forecast. That gives them a good window to reach their goal of Wisp Resort opening Friday the 15th.

Recently, Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales proudly announced that Betsy Spiker Holcomb is now a co-owner of our Real Estate Company. The excitement continued when we got to announce that Betsy also brought her Real Estate Team with her which consists of Bob Holcomb, Karen Myers, and Karen Doerr. Each member has worked with Betsy for many years and together the team brings a true sense of unity as well as their vast knowledge of Deep Creek Lake and Real Estate experience.
Bob Holcomb has over 23 years of experience in golf course construction including the impressive Lodestone Golf Course on top of Wisp Mountain. He quickly fell in love with Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County. As a Buyer Specialist, he uses his extensive knowledge and wisdom of the area, to assess his client’s needs and is a true asset to the Real Estate Team. Asking Bob how he felt about joining the Taylor-Made team he quoted, “I couldn’t be more excited to have this opportunity with such an amazing group of people. Taylor-Made is a family-based business that treats their employees and clients with integrity and respect. You can feel the positive and professional aura when you walk through the door. With the combination of a strong support staff and the use of cutting-edge technology, I think we can represent a significant portion of the real estate market share at Deep Creek Lake.”
Well-known throughout the area, Karen Myers is a true real estate consultant and brings a wealth of Garrett County Real Estate knowledge and experience to both buyers and sellers. It’s easy to see how her keen insight into Deep Creek Lake real estate will benefit area buyers and sellers as well as our team.
Karen Doerr is a licensed Assistant, Transaction Coordinator and Marketing Specialist to Betsy and her team. She has handled the marketing of hundreds of properties over the last 12 years and is the very best at what she does. Clearly her experience and background will be greatly appreciated by both the Taylor-Made Team and to the clients that she interacts with on a daily basis.

After much anticipation, Deep Creek Lake winter weather has arrived! Wisp Resort is getting ready to operate on full gear very soon.
Currently there are 8 trails open including the snow tubing park, mountain coaster and ice skating rink so now is the ideal time to visit Deep Creek Lake.
For those that like to try something a little different, snow shoeing is also another adventurous activity to try while you are in the area. All Earth Eco Tours does some amazing tours throughout the Swallow Falls State Park area and is the perfect activity for the whole family (As one who is well known to be Adventure Challenged, i.e. clumsy, even I can say that I can accomplish this and I loved it!)
There are also various places to go cross country skiing around the area so don’t forget to ask about some of our favorite places to go when you call in! It’s always so surprising that we still get asked “What things are there to do at Deep Creek?” when we always answer “Everything!” Offering lots of terrific last minute specials on our Deep Creek Lake rentals, our Reservationists are ready to help you find the perfect home for your winter getaway! If you haven’t made plans yet, don’t forget that the 18th Annual MSP/NRP Deep Creek Dunk is coming up on February 20th. What has truly become a true Deep Creek Lake tradition for many, it is also a wonderful opportunity to help adults and children with special disabilities so that they may experience the joy of participating in the Maryland Special Olympics! Granted taking on the frigid waters of Deep Creek is no easy task but great fun is had by all and the costumes and outfits that you get to see is so worth it! Kiss, Pee Wee Herman, and Teen Wolf are just some of the many creative people you get see run in the water! Again, all for a great cause. Do you dare to dunk?
Again, you must call us here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations and let us help you find the home that fits your needs! The Snow is here! We can’t wait to see you at the lake! #deepcreeklake #skiwisp #daretodunk
It has been a little easier these past few days to #thinkspring since we are finally beginning to see some warmer temperatures here in our Maryland Mountains. March definitely came roaring in like a lion as just last week we were hit with another big snowstorm. Today, however, is nothing but bright blue skies and a high of 40°+, it feels like a tropical paradise (okay, so that may be a slight exaggeration but compared to those negative temps, we will happily take it & enjoy!) I recently had an opportunity to make a few stops in Accident Maryland, a small town just a short 10 minute drive from Deep Creek Lake and one that many visiting us pass through on their way in or out of McHenry. If you haven’t been there ever or in a while, I recommend checking it out. For those history buffs, a must see stop at the historical Drane House which is thought to be the oldest standing structure in Garrett County and a key part of our Western Maryland heritage is needed. It holds significant importance due to its architectural significance that used a unique combination of log and frame structure techniques. It is suggested that you go onto their website to check time for tours of this wonderful old home. http://www.accidentmd.org/accidentmd/AroundTheTown/TheDraneHouse/tabid/62/Default.aspx.
Goodies from Firefly Farms
Your next stop is Firefly Farms off of Main Street. Here you can taste and buy their award winning goat cheeses most of which are made on-site. Artfully handcrafted and aged to precise perfection, many of Firefly’s cheeses have won numerous national and international cheese awards. The shop also features many types of wine and specialty items, basically everything you need to host a small gathering with friends or family. My personal recommendation is for the Black & Bleu goat cheese which offers a buttery and dense texture with a creamy robust flavor. Not sure which one to choose? They are very generous is allowing their patrons to taste the different varieties and then offer stellar advice on which pairs best with which wines and specialty food items. Trust me, you want to stop here. Don’t feel like cooking but in the mood for a good old fashioned home cooked meal? Annie’s Kitchen Country Restaurant serves everything from enormous portions of subs and sandwiches to bakery items, breakfast served all day and so much more. A warm and cozy atmosphere, this relaxing little diner is well worth the stop and very friendly on the wallet. http://www.annieskitchenrestaurant.com/

We here @ Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales are busy gearing up for another exciting holiday weekend. Hard to believe that we are half way through February and President’s Day weekend is already upon us. The following weekend (February 20th) is the 17th Annual MSP/NRP Deep Creek Dunk where people donate money to watch their friends jump into the frigid waters of Deep Creek Lake in the winter! It’s such a fun event and the money that is raised by the Maryland State Police and Natural Resources Police goes toward the Maryland Special Olympics! It’s held at The Honi-Honi Bar/ Uno’s Pizzeria and starting at 2 pm, all the dunkers start being lead in to the water in waves! People come from Maryland and surrounding states and they usually “Dress to Impress” meaning there are some extremely creative costumes to witness! If you haven’t made plans to attend this event then give us a call (1-866-351-1119 or online at www.deepcreekvacations.com) and let us help you find that perfect vacation home for you and your friends.
“I Got This!”
Many of our past guests may already be aware of this but when renting with us here at Taylor-Made, we offer those staying in our homes a “Local Vendor Discount Card” which is a card that they can take around to some of our area’s participating establishments and receive a certain discount or specialty item. The list of the participating businesses is listed in the home’s “House Book” and explains what each one offers. We are proud to add this expanding list and this week we are adding Archie’s Barbeque (http://www.archiesbbq.com/index.php) which is a dining restaurant here in McHenry. This is your go-to if you are craving some authentic smoked barbeque food. Ribs, wings, chicken, turkey, brisket; the list is long, the servings are insanely huge, and the food is awesome. Locally owned and operated since 2007 and proud to announce that they were “Awarded the “Best of the Best” across America for our Pulled Pork, Beef Brisket and Baby Back Ribs by the National Barbeque News Magazine!”, the Archer Family is committed to providing exceptional service to their guests whether they are now just stopping by for a meal or if they are considering having an event catered. They are also now using a really neat new system where you can earn points for every dollar you spend. Your points can then earn you free food or merchandise. Definitely a win-win for the customer! (We would suggest checking out their website or asking about this the next time you visit for full details!) So, Welcome Aboard Archie’s BBQ! We love your food & can’t wait to tell our guests to stop by for a great meal! In the meantime, the snow is falling and we can’t wait to see you at the lake! #deepcreeklake #winterwonderland #yummybbq #deepcreekdining #MarylandMountains
The other day I discovered a new shop at Deep Creek Lake. I felt a bit silly since it has been in the area for over 12 years but for some odd reason, it never occurred to me to go and check it out. Sacred Ground is located on the top floor of a large building in the heart of McHenry in the same building as The Popcorn Factory. As I started to drift upstairs, I could hear soft music playing in the background (always a nice touch) and voila! I was in a woman’s paradise! Rows of jewelry lined the wall with everything from rings, necklaces, bracelets, and more! From the name “Sacred Ground”, you can get the gist that a large portion of the jewelry was from a Southwest origin but still a large variety (I saw at least 10 pieces of jewelry that I know I must own and own asap!) I was greeted by the owner’s daughter Tiffany who was extremely sweet and displayed awesome customer service. She was very helpful and didn’t seem irritated at all by my many, many questions. She explained how her family had moved into the building 12 years prior and were actually the first tenants in the building. Her family has always had a love for the Southwest region and actually travel to Arizona and New Mexico to pick some of their merchandise directly. These also work closely with a Navajo Artist who helps design a lot of their jewelry. Walking further into the store, I noticed that they carried a lot more than just jewelry but there were candles, paintings, vases, and even clothing. Such a large selection of different items to choose from!
Love these necklaces!
Then I spotted what looked to me like just a very pretty lamp, however, Tiffany explained to me that it was actually a Himalayan Salt Lamp made of mined and carved minerals and it actually carries medicinal properties that are helpful for people with asthma and allergies! Neat! Between the beautiful music that played, the many delightful items to check out and again, the superb customer service, I knew without a doubt that I had found a new shopping venue! (Did I also mention that it was right on the lake and boasted breathtaking lake and mountain views?) We here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales we love to support our local shops and highly recommend to our friends and guests to stop in and check out Sacred Ground (grab some popcorn on your way out as well!)
Speaking of Taylor-Made, have you planned your winter getaway yet? Give us a call (I-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com ) and let us help you find that perfect vacation home for your next Deep Creek adventure. Not a fan of skiing? Have you tried snow tubing, ice skating, snow shoeing, cross country skiing? We have a plethora of fun and adventure waiting for you to try when you come visit our Maryland Mountains! We have fresh snow and we can’t wait to see you at the lake!
Deep Creek Lake is officially a winter wonderland. Over 8 inches of fresh snow has blanketed the area over the past 72 hours and Wisp has been crazy busy making snow for the last 100 hours straight! Definitely the perfect time to give us a call here at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales to take advantage of some of our unbelievable last minute discount (1-866-351-1119 or online www.deepcreekvacations.com). Even if you aren’t a fan of skiing or snowboarding, there is still many other enjoyable activities to do in our area during winter. Wisp also offers snow tubing which is essentially sled riding but lazier since you get pulled back up to the top. So much fun and kids of all ages love it! They also have the ice skating rink open. This is complete with twinkle lights that wrap around the ring and a large bonfire which adds to the charisma. For those that want to try something a little different, they may enjoy riding the mountain coaster that winds down the mountains (you control the speed so wimps like me can brake the whole way or the daredevils can let it go as fast as possible)! Another really exciting and fun winter activity is to call All Earth Eco Tours (www.allearthecotours.com) and schedule your snow shoeing tour. Crede, the owner will meet your group at Swallow Falls State Park (which houses the largest waterfall in the state of Maryland and is a breathtaking sight even in the winter). He then gives you detailed instructions on how to walk in your new snow shoes (I imagine it must be close to what a duck feels like) and how to handle your poles. He then shows you parts of the park that most people are unfamiliar with. It really is a lot of fun and a good workout as well. If you have qualms about whether you can do this than take it from one’s who a known klutz, if I can handle it and enjoy it, then anyone can!)
Even if you are not big on the outdoors, most of our homes are so well equipped that you could happily spend your stay hanging out with loved ones in your vacation home. Curl up in front of the crackling wood fireplace, unwind in your private steamy outdoor hot tub or enjoy a game of pool or maybe foosball. Call now!
