Oakland 2nd Annual Winter Festival

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day in down town Oakland for their 2nd annual winter festival. We enjoyed a great lunch at Englander’s to get out of the cold and saw one of our owners from the Swallow Falls Cabins. We then walked the streets and watched ice sculptors being made outside the local shops and saw Ray from Pleasant Valley Dream Rides giving free horse drawn sleigh rides.

The scupltors designed an ice castle for kids to slide down (our little guy was a little small for it) and a bowling lane made of ice. We also went over to the train station and took pictures with the trains and snowmen. They had local food vendors there as well, we spoke with Bryan from Jearbryo’s who had yummy crab cakes for sale! It was a great day and a lot of fun in downtown Oakland.

Whitetails Unlimited

Whitetails Unlimited hosted their annual event at Santa Fe Grill last night. Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations was a Bronze sponsor of the event. We enjoyed a wonderful evening dining on wild game such as wild boar, venison, hen, and many other wild game entrees. They also had an auction with items that were donated from local companies to help support Whitetails Unlimited, a National Conservation Organization that is dedicated to the betterment of whitetail deer. I won the bid on a fisherman’s lamp and a boat sign for our office.

Jenna Bush Visited Deep Creek Lake

After attending the inauguration of our new President, Barack Obama, former first twin, Jenna Bush, spent the following three-day weekend at Deep Creek Lake, MD. Jenna and her husband stayed at one of the properties, Clubhouse Chalet, handled by Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations in McHenry with a few other couples. Her stay at Waterfront Greens was enhanced by cold weather and the perfect conditions for skiing at the Wisp Ski Resort.

Dinner and Music at Wispers Bar

Every Wednesday night in January, Wispers Bar at Wisp Ski Resort is hosting live music by the Davisson Brothers Band. It is a FREE Show starting at 8pm.
Last week, I was able to get out and have dinner and enjoy some music. Wednesdays at Wisp you can also get great sushi and sit down and watch the band. Wispers was packed and the evening was fantastic. Good food, good company, and great music!
For more information you can contact Wisp Resort at 301-387-4911.

Dinner at Pine Lodge Steakhouse

During the holiday madness, my husband and I were able to make it out to Pine Lodge Steakhouse for dinner. Centrally located in McHenry, Pine Lodge Steakhouse is not a far drive from any lake home. It has two dining areas, the upstairs dining area and the saloon downstairs with wax stone floors, wooden pillars, and a large horseshoe style bar. We choose the saloon, with the smoking ban in all restaurants in Maryland we were able to bring our 9 month old son with us as well (he chose crackers for dinner). We started out our dinner with the appetizer special, the mussels, which ended up being a fabulous option. Then we split their biggest steak on the menu, The Lumberjack – it exceeded our expectations (it was so big, we needed to take some home for lunch the next day). We had a fantastic meal and top notch service for under $55 at a very popular restaurant in Deep Creek Lake. They have great lunch specials and dining options for every taste bud. You can even make reservations online at http://www.dclfun.com/! Look forward to seeing you out and about in Deep Creek Lake!

Sunday Alcohol Sales

Today marks the first day of sunday alcohol sales in Garrett County for some establishments. Many restaurants can now serve a drink with a meal on Sunday’s in Garrett County. The voters of several election districts recently approved Sunday alcoholic beverage sales at restaurants when dining. The rules basically allow restaurants to serve guests beer, wine or cocktails after the purchase of a meal between 1:00 PM and 10:00 PM every Sunday. Eight years ago the law passed for Savage River Lodge and the Avilton Inn. This time around Wisp, Cornish Manor, Pine Lodge Steakhouse, Will O Wisp, Uno’s, Smiley’s Pizzeria, The Hen House and Sante Fe and some other establishments join the ranks of those establishments allowed to serve guests beverages with their meal. Package alcoholic beverages are still not allowed to be purchased on Sundays. Taverns also remain unable to serve alcoholic beverages on Sundays.
