We love staying in the Stockslager area. Much less traffic than other areas around the lake. Kids are able to Kayak and enjoy the lake without heavy boat traffic.

Very nice location with a great lakeside fire pit and private dock. House is in need of some general repair and upkeep, but nothing terrible. Lack of a gas grille was inconvenient. Additionally, the house sleeps 14 guests but two of those are actually included as rollaway beds.

Great view, beds comfy, the hot tub was clean and awesome, the fire pit was lots of fun and we had a skippy rock competition right there in the back.

Great location. Nice hot tub and dock. House is showing the wear and tear of the end of the long summer season.

This is one of the best family vacations we have had. The home was a perfect location, clean and spacious. Outstanding lake views, swimming and fishing. If you love the outdoors this is the place for you. Walking trails, kayaking, biking, alot of exercise. Plenty to do and if you just want to kick back and relax you can just sit on the outside deck and soak in the lake. Would return again and again. Taylor Made has outstanding service and always available. Would highly recommend.

nice house with great views, plenty of space for guests. Fire pit is down by the water which makes for a nice night. Great dock to hang out and fish of off.

I absolutely enjoyed my stay here. The home was clean and the view was amazing! Staff was also very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Getting dates together to book my next trip! We had an awesome time!!

This was our second year at Highland Retreat. We love this location with the paths running along the lake. The house itself is in great need of basic updates. But it is dog friendly which is what i needed.

Beautiful house clean and very comfortable beds..

1st off- we LOVED this home!!!! The property is absolutely gorgeous... sitting at the table and looking out over the lake was absolutely perfect! The windows are HUGE and the views are stunning! 2nd- we were lucky enough that it snowed which was so beautiful! The hot tub is HUGE and changes all different colors. The fire pit is down by the water which makes is even better! We loved having the pool table and ping pong tables for hanging out. Wifi was VERY helpful and FREE :) If you are going in the winter- it not far at all from Wisp! 3rd- We also loved the privacy, there are neighbors but they are spaced enough so that you aren't right on top of them. The road itself is off the beaten path and very private which we also liked. The path that cuts through the property goes all the way around the lake which is pretty cool. The kitchen was big and the table could seat all of our guests. Overall it was WONDERFUL! We will definitely be back to the Highland Retreat! :)

Enjoyed the view and the house.... The overall decor of the house could use a little refresh but it was comfortable and clean with a gorgeous winter view.

The entire experience was quick & easy, from reserving the rental online, to managing deposits/payments in three installments (which really helped when coordinating a large group of friends). Taylor-Made was responsive to all of my questions, and their staff were always friendly and helpful above and beyond what I could have anticipated. One example was when our vehicles became snowed in and couldn't make it up the inclined icey driveway - Taylor-Made sent help and we were pulled out and on our way to the slopes in under an hour! The house itself was a secluded gem. Clean, spacious, and the perfect place to host 13 friends for a memorable weekend.

We took our children and grandchildren to Deep Creek for Christmas this year and once again chose to use HomeAway to find a home. As always, we were very pleased with our choice!

My wife, I and all of our guests had an amazing long weekend at this beautiful house! We are definitely coming back in the summer!

Great up-to-date property with beautiful surroundings. Effortless rental process, arrival and departure.

Just got back from a four day, three night stay at Highland Retreat. Other reviews were very accurate. Not a fancy place but everything worked and you cannot beat the location. We have stayed all over the area and Stocklager Road is the best area. The walking paths and quiet area of the lake make it a prime location. And i thank the owner for making it dog friendly since our mini schnauzer loves Deep Creek! We had a wonderful time. And this is our first time with Taylor Made- everyone in the office was super nice- from Nich who helped in reservations to the front desk ladies who checked us in.

This was our first Deep Creek Lake experience. We found the house clean and well appointed. The location was excellent. They were unable to repair the ladder on the pier while we were there, but it didn't dampen our vacation fun.

Overall we had a great time at Deep Creek - the house was nice, the location was great along with the dock, the weather was a little off, but we still enjoyed it. The only critics is the lower level is a little musty and the kitchen sink needs to be replaced/repaired. Overall we had a good time and would stay here again.

Great place! This is the second year I have stayed there for the winter season. Awesome house

Highland Retreat is a beautiful home on the lake which I'd definitely rent during the summer. We rented the property to stay in while skiing at Wisp. Unfortunately, we could not get the gas fireplace's pilot light to light so no fire entire stay. The heat's natural gas venting system vents right outside the front door so strong odor of gas worried us until we finally found out what the problem was late our first night. This property is located off unlighted, hilly roads which were covered in packed snow so wish it was made clear that 4 wheel drive is Necessary, not optional. Other than all that, we did enjoy the hot tub and the view over the frozen lake!

Highland Retreat was a beautiful home, high above the lake, were 14 family members, from 4 states, gathered. Plenty of room for all to do whatever, eat, ski, rest, walk, etc. To be together for 5 days, in this home with such amenities, was a delightful ending to a good year. Many thanks to owners and agents!

We had a really great experience at Highland Retreat. It was nice and spacious; clean, comfortable and it was equipped with all the necessary amenities. The only slight disappointment was the gas fireplace. We were hoping for the good ole fashioned wood burning fireplace. We probably overlooked this very minor detail in the homes description. Also- we have a 16 month old and we found the place to be quite child friendly. Although the owners might want to invest in one safety gate for the steps to the basement. We were able to keep our daughter away from the steps but it would have been nice to not have to worry about it. Overall the home was spectacular- the proximity to the lake was perfect and it wasn't too far from the main town. The staff at Taylor Made were super friendly and easy to work with. We highly recommend Highland Retreat!
Would be great if bedroom on main floor had screens on windows and dining room table had more chairs.

Dock gets great sun all day long. House has amazing hot tub.
Some drawbacks were correctable. The hot tub never heated properly despite two requested service calls; bears got into the "bear proof" container twice, something that has happened a lot as witnessed by the trashed area across the road in the woods; main room shower did not offer hot water (though all others did). I'd also say the house is too small for 14 people - there is bed space but not "living" space. Ten people max.
Good week all-in-all through. Recommended.

Highland Retreat is a very comfortable setting on a nice part of the lake - near the dam so not as busy or rough as some other areas. Great views. Lots of steps so perhaps not for the knee-challenged. The amenities were nice and the lake-side walk was great.

Our family had a great time. The location was perfect.

From making the reservation to checking out, I had a great experience with the Taylor Made company. I was in constant contact with Amanda; she answered all of my millions of emails and questions and was always so helpful. When we arrived to the house everything was in great condition and there was much more at the house than I was expecting (serving dishes, detergent, cleaning supplies, etc.). The view was spectacular! Unfortunately, the weekend was a little cooler than expected, but we still had so much to do --hot tub, fire pit, hiking, ping pong, pool, etc. The only thing that I would complain about is the fact that the dishwasher didn't lock, so we had to wash everything by hand --when you have 13 people staying together that can be a little time consuming. Other than the dishwasher, everything was above and beyond my expectations. I would definitely return for another weekend!

My family chose Highland Retreat at Deep Creek for our Thanksgiving get together this year and had a great time. The house was very well equipped and roomy for the 12 of us. The staff at Taylor-Made were wonderful at check-in and the process was very simple and easy.

Highland Retreat is certainly a property of which the owners can be very proud. It is well maintained, clean, and well decorated. We do , however have some suggestions that the owner might want to consider. First, concerning the lighting. It was a cloudy week, and the solar lights along the long curved stairway to the lake did not light at all, so we could not use the lakeside area in the evening. Also the hot tub area had no light at night. It was beautifully lit once it was turned on, but opening and locking it was a problem after dark. The only other problem was the number of "PRIVATE>OWNER" spaces reserved in the kitchen, leaving very little space for food and snacks for twelve people. First time we have run into that problem in our ten years at Deep Creek. Again, it is a great property and we thank the owners for sharing it with us!

House was nice. When we arrived, it was not very clean. We cleaned counters and tabletop and the lights over the table and sink were thick with dust. I must say the décor of the house was great! From bedding to wall hangings...very well done. Each picture was nicer than the next. Only a couple recommendations: add better lakeside seating. Only two chairs were useable (4 others broken/shaky), a propane grill (charcoal is a pain), and a new iron (it doesn't work). Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Our family spent a lot of time on the rental boat which was all very convenient. Marvelous views of the lake . Privacy was supurb. The house was well kept with plenty of room for everybody. We enjoyed a fire at night near the lake. All was fun.

The house was well laid out and comfortable. Loved being able to walk down to the lake, firepit and hiking trail from our back door.

My family and i had a great time no questions, the property just need a little touch up. (very old) but as i said we had a great time.
- Jaime M. from Arlington, VA, Posted: 02/06/2013
everything was great. The house is really nice, better than what it looks in the pictures. Location is very secluded. Arriving late at night was a little challenging as it was extremely dark and they gave me the wrong key code. Aside from that, everything was great.

We had a nice wooden steps all the way to the fire pit which is right next to the gorgeous Deep Creek Lake. Hot tub was very large and house was welcoming, would like to come back again.
