With more than twenty years of experience in the vacation rental industry, Stacy has worked for management companies at Deep Creek Lake as well as on Hatteras Island, NC and in Killington, VT. She started in reservations and gained experience that led her to a role in marketing and photography. Seven years of her career were spent as an email marketing consultant at a leading web development firm that served vacation rental companies across the country. Stacy is a Garrett County native with a passion for enjoying the outdoors with her husband, Jay, and dog, Buddy.
How long have you lived in Deep Creek? I’m a Garrett County native and have lived here my entire life but also spent six summers living and working on Hatteras Island, NC and also spent a winter working at Killington Ski Resort, VT.
What are your hobbies?
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Jay, and my dog, Buddy. You’re likely to find us canoeing on the Youghiogheny River, playing disc golf at Wisp Resort, or hiking at Herrington Manor.
Favorite thing about the area?
My favorite thing about the area is the abundant natural beauty.
Favorite Local Restaurant? I have a few – Ace’s Run, Brenda’s Pizzeria, and MoonShadow
Favorite Season? Fall is easily my favorite season. When the leaves change, the landscape is just beautiful and it’s still warm enough to hike, bike, and canoe.
Favorite Local Events?
I love going to Art in the Park. It’s held every summer in July at Deep Creek Lake State Park and features lots of local artists. I usually go with my parents and sometimes take Buddy since it’s a dog friendly event.
If you only had a couple of days to spend in Deep Creek, what would you recommend doing? (Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter)
No matter what the season, I would recommend exploring our state parks. With over 70,000 acres of public land, it’s a must when you visit the area. You can cross country ski at Herrington Manor and New Germany in the winter, fly fish on the Savage River in the spring, paddleboard at Deep Creek Lake State Park in the summer, and hike to Swallow Falls (and beyond) in the fall.
What is the most common misconception about DCL from out-of-towners?
I think that visitors may not always look beyond the lake for activities. Garrett County offers lots of affordable ways to experience the outdoors with family and friends and our small towns each have their own unique attractions.
